Homeschooling with 4 Boys in Indiana
|
We are the proud owners of 4 hens. I have never owned a chicken before so this is a new experience for me. I was a little worried since I was not sure what to expect. You can only learn so much from books(LOL) We got the idea that we would raise some hens so we could get eggs of our own. So far the eggs have been pretty expensive(LOL) The coop, chicken food, feeders and waterers. As of now, only 1 hen is laying. The rest should start this fall. Although it was an expense up front, the experience has been well worth it. Not only are we enjoying our hens, we are learning so much about chickens. Did you know chickens eat grass??? I did not know that! I also learned they like cottage cheese(LOL) Ok, aside from the funny details, we have learned about their habbits. Chickens are really not as noisy as the cartoons portray them and they act like they are in labor when they get ready to lay an egg. So far, it has been a blast! The boys LOVE their hens. They each picked out a name: Henny-Penny, Peach, Lucy and Henrietta. You would think they were pets or something....ok, they are. They boys carry them around and they sit out by the coop talking to them. I NEVER imagined they would enjoy their hens so much. Did I mention that we don't really live on a farm? We actually live in a rural neighborhood. Our coop is moveable and we move it every few days. The neighbors have not noticed. If they have, they don't seem to care. It is legal, we checked(LOL) I plan on sharing our eggs when the "girls" get with the program. That way, when the neighbors finally notice, they will already love the hens(LOL) This is definitly a new experience, but we sure are enjoying it!

I LOVE planners! They make me feel organized(LOL) Seriously, I am not the one to give anyone advice on Planners! I get excited every year when I purchase my new planner for our school. After about 3 weeks, the excitement wears off and I return to my old stanby.....the boring, wide- ruled, spiral notebook. Those other planners NEVER have enough room or the pages I need to organize anything! I am excited to get a peek at the Old SchoolHouse Planner. I am sure it will be GREAT! Maybe now I can get rid of my notebook. Go celebrate America's Independance.... Happy 4th of July! |
