First Day of 1st grade

The public school started school today so we decided to start today as well.  I am going to blog our day sort like a pirate mom I know did.  thepiratemom.com

7:30 this morning I wake to the sounds of my sweet now 4 month old giggling on the monitor.  I never use an alarm clock unless I have to be somewhere early in the morning.  I walk into the big girls room one kids missing and the other is asleep.  I find Filly in the office watching My Little Pony.  I get her clothes for her.  I get little sunshine up and feed her and then put her back to bed since that is how it goes here.  Copycat is still sleeping.

Off to school in the dining room

8am Uncle Mark comes to work on the basement and the HVAC guy I hired that wasn't suppose to show til 9am is here as well.  The all go to work in the basement.  There is constant sawing, pounding, and whistling coming from the basement.

  New basement fireplace

8:20 Filly eats cereal, juice and a donut bite.  I have juice.

8:40 I wonder if Copycat is still alive since she isn't up yet.  I begin to think I should go check on her.  When I get to her room she is in bed and says she was too afraid to come down since there are strange men here, she could hear them talking.

9:00 Sunshine is sleeping, Copycat is eating dry cereal in front of the tv watching a hooked on phonics DVD, Filly is at the dining table staring at me wondering when we are starting school.  After I rummage through all the books and get my barings we crack open the phonics book and begin.

We work on arithmatic, phonics, social studies, cursive handwriting, science, bible, Awana, and art.

Noon We stopped for lunch of nachos from left overs

and to assemble a slow cooker lasagna for dinner.

Ingredients Assembly Ready to go

Throughout the day we were interupted many times with the dogs, the men in the basement needing something, Sunshine wanting to eat and the Schwanns man wanting my money.  We made it through in 5 hours.  I even got the dishes washed and some laundry done.  It is 6pm and I am exhausted.  I can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow just add a doctors appointment for Sunshine and a play date at 3 with a friend of Filly's.  Subtract the HVAC guy.

Leah Kathryn is here!

Leah Kathryn was born Friday May 1 by c-section.  She is doing great and sleeping well.  I am recovering nicely.  The girls are loving their new sister.  School year is done so I can focus on my children and getting well.

Copycat had her 3rd birthday May 2 while I was in the hospital, we celebrated when I got home.  She reminds me everyday she is a big sister now and no longer a baby.

Updates

School is going good.  We are pretty much just reviewing.  Counting money (mixing coins), Telling time, reading everything, adding and subtracting, handwriting, spelling and bible.

We have only 10 lessons to go!  How are we done with our school year so early?  We started in mid- August, we only took off on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  We also had school on some Saturdays.  We are also not taking a Spring break.

My c-section is scheduled for 7:30 am April 28.  I am excited and nervous.  This was by far the easiest pregnancy compared to the other two girls.  I feel good for 37 weeks.  I don't feel stiff or in pain, I can do pretty much whatever I did before being pregnant.  I have only gained 21lbs.

Our School

We're still moving along in A beka's K5 curriculum.  We have completed the Hooked on phonics kindergarten program as of last week.  Currently we are practicing manuscript handwriting in sentences, reading everything.  Marking vowels and special sounds.  Spelling one and two vowel words.  Adding single digits, counting money, telling time, measuring with ruler in inches.  I also add in her Awana workbook that she is doing for extra credit since she already finished  and reviewed the required handbook for the year.  I looked through my calendar and if I don't do more than one lesson a day in all subjects her last day of school will be April 24 which is nice since my planned c-section is for April 28.   Late May after taking a maternity break we will begin a basic summer school.  I am planning on 2 days a week for a just a few hours doing a workbook that incorporates all she learned and gets her ready for 1st grade plus we will practice reading.

I have already purchased next years 1st grade curriculum from A beka and hope it goes as well as this past year has.  I am excited to add new subjects such as science and social studies.  Filly is excited for Art.

Hobbies:  Filly has finished her classes at the YMCA for swimming and gymnastics and we are taking a few sessions off to prepare for baby and recover then will go back in the summer.  Also Horseriding has been on hold since December due to cold temps here in Wisconsin and an unheated indoor arena.  We will hopefully start lessons again in a week.  Filly wasn't having fun shiverring in 10-20 degree temps all bundled up and stiff.  I decided after one time of that we won't take her unless it is at least 35-40 degrees.

Copycat is going to be 3 in early May and I am having a hard time getting motivated to potty train her.  She just isn't interested.  Any suggestions?  I can't seem to remember how I potty trained Filly she was so easy she practically did it herself.
