Victors Take Three at Grace Christian by Christopher Moody; 12/9/09 __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Last night the Victors traveled to Louisville to face the Eagles of Grace Christian. After a slow start the Lady Victors soared past the Eagles taking the first of the night 20-2. The JV boys battled next. The Victors got out ahead quickly, claiming a 17-2 lead after the first half of play. The JV boys pulled further ahead scoring 28 points in the second half to win 45-11. In the prior year, the Varsity match ended in an overtime duel that was snagged by the Eagles. This was a game well remembered by the Victors. They looked to strike back, and tonight would go as they hoped. The Victors took a quick lead, scoring 19 in the first quarter and limiting the Eagles to 2. Teamwork powered the Victors to a 36-6 halftime lead. Grace Christian would not recover as the Victors swept the night with a 61-34 win. 1-2-3....Victors "Confidence is contagious." Vince Lombardi 2:38 PM - Dec. 9, 2009Victors Fall to Stars by Christopher Moody; 12/4/09 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thursday night, December 3 was a tough night for the Victors as they took on the Stars of Winona Christian. The Jr. High boys saw the first action of the evening. Taking the floor, they got ahead quick, knocking down some outside shots to go ahead 7-0. Winona bounced back, however, claiming an 18-12 lead at the half. The Stars controlled their lead winning 34-18. In an attempt to even the count, the Lady Victors went to battle. Winona proved to be more than the Lady Victors could handle, as the Lady Stars won 34-2. The JV boys sought to avoid the sweep in the final contest of the night. They made a run in the end of the second quarter to take a 14-11 halftime lead. In the second half, the Stars went on a run of their own, from which the Victors would not recover, falling 31-24 to Winona Christian. * "If you can't accept losing, you can't win." Vince Lambardi 3:51 PM - Dec. 4, 2009Victors Soar Past Flyers by Christopher Moody; 12/2/09 __________________________________________________________________________________ The Meridian Flyers landed in Jackson to battle the Victors Tuesday night. It was their second meeting of the year. The JV boys were the first on the court. After a sluggish start, the Victors broke it open pushing to a 28-10 halftime lead. They extended their lead in the second half grounding the Flyers and securing their seventh win of the season by a score of 45-24. Radars were set for the Varsity boys match. The last encounter between these two opponents ended in a narrow victory for the Flyers, but would the Victors strike back in their home theater? The two teams took off for battle but the skies proved friendlier to the Victors as they soared to a 38-20 halftime lead. Firing beyond the arc attributed to nearly half the Victor points as Jackson persevered 63-45. * "Play up! Play up! And play the game!" Henry Newbolt 4:13 PM - Dec. 2, 2009Victors Challenge Flames by Christopher Moody; 11/30/09 __________________________________________________________________________________________ Saturday, November 21, the Victors hosted the Flames of University Christian. This was the first meeting between these two basketball programs. All the games would be exciting. In an intense match, the Lady Victors fought hard. They claimed the lead several times, however, UCS would not be denied. The Flames won the game 18-15. With a 6 game winning streak, the JV boys took the floor. With aggressive play, the Flames built an early lead. The Victors pushed hard, but the Flames' determination held on for the 48-41 victory. In the nightcap, the Varsity looked to stop the sweep. The Varsity boys seized the momentum at the half with a 33-5 lead. Cooling only a little, they maintained the lead in the second half, triumphing with a 59-32 victory. * "Just play. Have fun. Michael Jordan 2:12 PM - Dec. 1, 2009Victors Wrangle Hillcrest Christian by Christopher Moody, 11/20/09 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ The Victors headed south to face the Cougars at Hillcrest Christian. Starting things off, the Lady Victors took the floor. They played a tough game; however, the Cougars pulled out the win 29-21. Searching for a sixth consecutive win, the JV boys hit the court in expectation of a hard battle. This proved to be the case as the game was tied several times. In the end, however, they managed to pull it out, as the Victors defeated the Cougars 38-33. In the night cap, the Varsity struggled against a tenacious Cougar Varsity boys team. Though the outcome was not as they hoped, the Victors gave it their all, losing 77-51. At another site, the Victors Jr. Hi boys entertained the Parkway Baptist boys' team in Clinton, Ms. Parkway proved overwhelming as the Victors fell by a score of 34-8. * As Bear Bryant said, "Never quit. It's the easiest copout in the world..." 1-2-3...VICTORS! 1:11 PM - Nov. 20, 2009Jackson Victors at Starkville Christian by Christopher Moody, 11/18/09 _________________________________________________________________________ The Jackson Victors traveled to Starkville Monday night to battle the Cougars. The Lady Victors fought hard keeping it close. The Cougars would not be tamed however, as they held on to win the opener 23-21. The JV Victors looked to even the count, riding a four game winning streak. Every JV Victor contributed as they captured the win over the Cougars by a score of 48-16. The Rubber match featured two evenly matched Varsity boys teams. It was a struggle most of the way as both the Victors and the Cougars each shared the lead. However, the Victors ultimately eased past the Cougars 47-34. * Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor. 15:17. 1-2-3....VICTORS! 3:27 PM - Nov. 18, 2009Jackson Victors defeat Grace Christian by Christopher Moody, 11/17/09 ____________________________________________________________________________________ Grace Christian visited the Jackson Victors Friday, 11/13/09, for some friendly JV contests. The Lady Victors eased past the short handed Grace Christian girls by a score of 30-0. Congratulations to the Lady Victors who claimed their second win of the year. The JV boys game followed the girls. The Victors extended their winning streak and rolled to a 37-21 victory. The night cap featured an intervarsity scrimmage. The Varsity boys split into two evenly matched squads and played a Blue-White game. The game was a close battle as both teams led at different points in the game; however, the White prevailed in the end winning by two. The Victors hit the road Tuesday as they travel to Starkville Christian. * "A Winner never stops trying." Proverbs 10:9a * The Victors certainly maintained their integrity as they battled Hebron Christian Monday night. In the first contest the Lady Victors portrayed sportsmanship and team spirit in spite of their loss to the Lady Eagles. The JV Victors continued their winning ways, nevertheless, struggling to a 50-41 victory. Like the Lady Victors, the Varsity boys faced more daunting prospects. In a one point heartbreaking defeat our young men maintained a Christ like attitude through the fracas. * "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." John Wooden 1-2-3......VICTORS! 10:49 AM - Nov. 11, 2009Victors Sweep Starkville Christian By Christopher Moody; 11/9/09 ________________________________________________________________________________ Friday night the Victors entertained the Cougars of Starkville Christian. Lady Victors opened the evening with an exciting battle. Critical buckets and good defense late in the game pushed the girls to a 29-28 victory. It was the first win for the Lady Victors! Looking to keep things rolling, the Junior Varsity easily defeated the Cougars. The JV used the entire team to boost them to victory. Every player contributed to the 59-27 win. With two victories, all eyes were on the Varsity to finish the night. Great shooting and several key defensive plays pulled the varsity to the final win. They completed the sweep, 63-50. The Victors travel to Hebron Christian Monday night. This will be their first meeting on the court. 1-2-3....VICTORS! "Winners never quit and quitters never win." Vince Lombardi 11:36 AM - Nov. 9, 2009Victors vs. Meridian By Christopher Moody, 11/3/09 ________________________________________________________________________________________ Monday evening the Victors battled the Meridian Flyers. The JV Victors got things started playing the Meridian Flyers JV for the first time. The Victors combined team effort soared them to a stunning 46-18 triumph. The Varsity fought valiantly, clawing their way from a 16-point deficit to within 2. Despite their best efforts, the Flyers held on to win by three. The Victors look to put this hard loss behind as they take on Starkville Christian Friday. 1-2-3...VICTORS! 2:22 PM - Nov. 3, 2009Prep Scrimmage By Christopher Moody ______________________________________________________________________________ The Varsity boys faced off with Jackson Prep's ninth grade boys team for a friendly scrimmage held at Jackson Prep Thursday evening. The Victors started the game with an early run taking the lead 9-6, but the Patriots would not be denied outlasting the Victors 68-58. Stay tuned as the Jackson Victors travel to Meridian Monday night! 1-2-3....VICTORS! 6:17 PM - Oct. 30, 2009Victors Mini Invitation Tournament Update By Christopher Moody __________________________________________________________________________________ The Varsity boys took the floor first facing the Patriots of Baton Rouge. The two teams squared off at 12:00. The Victors played hard but fell 25-47 to the Patriots. Next the Lady Victors went head to head with the Hattiesburg Forerunners. They played each other for the first time ever. The lead was exchanged several times by each team, but the Lady Forerunners came out on top 16-12. The Lady Victors hold a record of 0-2. The Varsity boys sought redemption, taking on their arch rival Hattiesburg. The Victor boys came out playing like a totally different team pounding the Forerunners 68-46. Andrew Fehrenbacher banged the boards racking up a total of 27 points. Daniel Moody had 15 and Denny Weeks added 13. The Victors moved to 1-2 with the win. 1-2-3...VICTORS! 5:55 PM - Oct. 30, 2009Victors Battle Warriors By Christopher Moody ______________________________________________________________________________ The Jackson Victors opened their 2009-2010 season facing off with the Tuscaloosa Warriors. The Lady Victors started the night as they took on the Lady Warriors. They hung in but dropped their opener, 7-34. Laney and Megan each scored two and Missy made the other three. The JV boys followed, fighting a tough battle. The game was well played by both teams, but the Warriors once again came out on top defeating the Victors 40-27. Leading scorers were Christopher Moody with 7 and Daniel Fehrenbacher and Jeremiah Reese with 6 each. The Varsity looked to bounce back as they played the final game of the night. The Warriors, however, built an insurmountable lead over the Victors and completed the sweep 78-45. Top scorers for the Victors were Andrew Fehrenbacher with 15 and Daniel Moody with 8. The Victors will host a tournament this Saturday at Lakeside Presbyterian Church. Tip off begins at 12:00. 1-2-3...VICTORS! 5:42 PM - Oct. 30, 2009Off to a Great Start By Christopher Moody ______________________________________________________________________________ Victors basketball jumped off to a great start September 9. Approximately 28 players make up the Junior Varsity and Varsity squads. The coaches have been drilling and preparing each team for the season opener against the Tuscaloosa Warriors, Oct. 16. Tip off at Pear Orchard begins at 5pm when the Lady Victors take on the Lady Warriors with the JV and Varsity contests to follow.
