Nov. 11, 2007 - Does it Matter? Part 1

Starting now, every Sunday I'm going to post about something that really doesn't matter in light of eternity. This is a ten week series. Todays topic: church denominations. I don't really have a lot of time right now, so it's going to be short.

Do you really think that your church denomination is the only right one? We are all sinners, we all have different tranlations of the Bible and all of us read it differently. Is it really fair to say that no one else really loves God with all they have because their not baptist, first assembly, mennonite, calvinist, methodist, or whatever? Will it really matter when we stand before Christ? If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer on Saturday.

God bless,

Alycia

Does it really, in the light of eternity, make you a better Christian because you go to a certain kind of church? No. Unless your church is doing something that is totally contrary to Scripture, than I don't think it really matters.
Look at all the countries where the church is persecuted. Do you think in China people argue over Baptists vs. Presbyterians, Methodists or whatever? I doubt it. In fact, those people are lucky if they have one church to choose from around them.
Now, as someone who has gone to Bible, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Brethern, and non-denom churches in her life, I can understand finding a church to "fit" your beliefs when it comes to non essential things. In America, we have the freedom to do that. However, I don't think it's somehting that should cause such dissension between believers!
Anywho, looking forward to more of your series! This should be interesting!

Nov. 15, 2007 - translation confusion!

Posted by crossthebridge

It's true that we have many translations, but when the original Bible was inspired, God only had one meaning in mind, especially about Jesus and how people are saved. People (& denominations) can't just believe anything they want to and still have it be God's truth. If I say to you that 2 + 2 =5 you would say that I am crazy. That is because we all know that the truth is that 2 + 2 is 4. It doesn't matter how much faith I have when I say 2 + 2 is 5, I am still wrong. This is also true with the Bible. If you are wrong about it, it doesn't matter how much faith you have. You are still wrong.

There is something really scary in Matthew chapter 7. Jesus said that on the day of judgment some people will say, "Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name, cast out demons in your name, and do many wonders in your name?" Then Jesus will say to them, "Depart from me, I never knew you."

WOW!! This means there are going to be some people at the judgment who think they are on the right track but they really aren't. So, our job is to work at getting the right truth about Jesus, and live a life of true faith.

I am not attacking denominations. I am simply saying that no matter who you are or what denomination you belong to, you still have to interpret the Bible correctly, especially about Jesus. You can't just believe anything you want and think that because you are going to church that you are really saved.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."

Hey Lysha! :-)

Hmm.... I agree with you. :-) We used to go to a Baptist church in Florida, but now we go to a Church of God. Not for the denomonation, but because our pastor, Bro. Dino, is amazing, and we really like him. :-) The people there are all great.

In the long run, I don't think it really effects eternity if you go to Church of God, Baptist, Presbyterian, etc., etc. What matters is, are you getting saved? Are you hearing the gospel? Is the preaching you hear the truth? That's what matters in eternity.

Luv ya,
Becca
