This guy LOVES snow...he loves to crawl in it, make snow angels, slide in it, eat it...he just LOVES it.  He probably spends more time outdoors in the winter than he does in the summer!

Oct. 26, 2007 - Meeting Jan Brett

Posted in Look at E.

When Elijah was four years old, he asked us if he could meet Jan Brett. He had fallen in love with the book Hedgie's Surprise.   She wasn't in our area for her next tour, so I told him he would have to wait awhile.

He then became attached to many other Brett books such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Daisy Comes Home, and Honey, Honey, Lion. He wrote Jan Brett a letter and was thrilled to receive a letter back from her telling him all about Hedgie.

When I checked her website a few months ago to see where she would be for her Three Snow Bears tour, I was pretty excited to see Indiana on the list. I didn't say a word to Elijah until I'd talked to Jason who thought it would be a great opportunity for Elijah to finally meet her. Here are some pictures from our little trip.

Elijah waited patiently (on the floor there) for almost 30 minutes.

Jan Brett told us all about her new book and how she got the idea to write it.  She also taught a lesson on art and facial expressions.

Continuing with her art lesson.  Can you see Elijah's head?

Oct. 16, 2007 - First Fish

Posted in Look at E.

We were blessed to spend the day with our dear friends last week while they were camping.

Simon had fun running...running...running in the open wild. It was nice to have so many hands to help push the stroller and so many feet to help chase him down!

I was really refreshed...just to be outside and behold the beauty of creation. Even in a fallen world, God still gives us glimpses of His glory and grandeur.

Jason and Elijah enjoyed spending some time fishing (thanks to Chris). Elijah caught his first fish (with a bit of help from dad; it wasn't little). They also went for a walk together and came upon some deer tracks. Jason could tell they were fresh, so they followed them into the forest and were able to find the deer!

Here is a picture of our fisherman and one of his fish:

When I was One, I had just begun.
When I was Two, I was nearly new.
When I was Three I was hardly me.
When I was Four, I was not much more.
When I was Five, I was just alive.
But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever,
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.

Oct. 7, 2007 - Birthday Round-Up

Posted in Look at E.

Here are some pictures of Elijah's Cowboy Party. I found some cute kits from Oriental Trading. Each one had a badge, bandana, and a cowboy hat. For our first three games, the kids had to "earn" their gear. They had to jump a snake, show their superb shooting skills, and herd some cattle (aka balloons) home. After that, they were able to continue showing off with lasso practice (and keep the lemonade!) and have a blast in the haystack. We love birthday parties 'round here; I'll be quiet now and let the pictures speak for themselves.
