We were 'bout due for a field trip, so here was the perfect opportunity! I read it in the daily courier… an Open House at the new assembly plant where the World's Heaviest Landfill Compactor is manufactured! Complete with a video presentation, a tour guide, humongous machinery to ooh and aah over, and free hotdogs and hamburgers, what more could we ask for? J
Also, on the same page of the newspaper, the company was advertising their newly created positions. These included welders, forklift operators, assemblers, painters and even light maintenance/housekeeping. I read these to our boys. (As homeschoolers, we are always on alert to see where our boys’ interests lie. That way, we can custom-fit our curriculum to meet their God-given talents.)
As I had expected, our youngest son found most of these positions to be right up his alley. Our oldest is more of the creative and engineering sort, so he’d probably fit better in one of the lush, quiet offices, preferably trying to figure out how many scrap metal balers he could stack on top of each other. J But, nonetheless, boys are boys and they both wanted to see the gigantic machinery.
Here they are, with their dad, looking at the awesome car crusher:

We didn’t get to see it in action, but saw the results:

“Compact car” anyone? J
