Ward's Sward... Where the Grass is Always Greener

• May. 24, 2007 - Last Day of School

Yesterday was our last day of school!  Yay!  Our family tradition has been to go to Breadeaux Pizza and Norman presents certificates to our boys.  This year, instead of going to our local Breadeaux, our boys wanted to go back to the one where we used to live.  We don't get over to our old stomping grounds very often since it is an hour away, so we thought that it would be fun to do this, for old time’s sake.

On our way over, the boys enjoyed seeing familiar landmarks.  Once we got to town, we drove by our old house.  A person never knows what to expect when visiting old homesteads, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that it looked pretty much the way it did when we moved.  We also drove by some of the other places that we used to walk to, like the train depot, fish pond, and the library.  Then, we stopped and had a nice visit with one of Norman's old co-workers.

Finally, we made it to Breadeaux Pizza and carried out our fun little traditions...

“UGH!  Why can’t you do something to help me?”

“Why sure, Ollie, what would you like?  A little TUMS for the tum-tum?”

“Just smile and repeat after me, ‘I am NOT embarrassed, I am NOT embarrassed’.”

“Now, where was that EXIT sign?”

After stuffing ourselves with breadsticks and ice cream, we played around up on the square...

That's all, folks!  J

What a fun tradition! Thanks for sharing the experience and the pictures! And that last picture, (while they are all great), really looks like it should be entered into some kind of contest!

like a wonderful way to end the school year!!!

We are taking the boys out to an icecream place when Zachary finishes his K Math book. And when they finish Part 1 of Sing, Spell, Read and Write. (poor zachary was close to finishing his explode the code when I changed programs on him, now he had to start over.. ;) )

We are going thru the summer since we have a baby arriving in EARLY September so we can break for the Month of September!! (and probably late August).

I'm just curious, what do you do over the summer? Any required reading or brushing up on math skills? I am alwasy interested in what others do, since we are so new to this. We are going thru the summer htis year, only because of the baby, not sure this will be an every year thing or not.

As always, I love reading your blog!! Thanks for sharing!

What a great way to end the school year! I'm kind of wishy-washy about when we end so we really don't do anything though I feel like we should. I almost want to continue throughout the summer because the kids seem to miss doing the bookwork though they'd never admit to it! We might continue their copywork out of the book of Luke and I want to start having more of a Bible study than we've been doing. Anyway, I'm glad you have a little closing ceremony, I think it's a good idea and your kids would miss it if you didn't do it (regardless of their facial expressions!)

By the way, please pray for my husband if you get a chance. I've blogged about what's wrong. Thanks and God bless!

What a nice tradition! We just trudge along until I send in the final quarterly reports. Big deal for me, not so much for them.
I always get a few laughs at your blog!
Thanks for your comment, Connie! I had to laugh at your home painting experiences. We've been painting walls every year since we moved in here. It's always an experience when my younger two help!

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina
