But, I have a pretty big prayer request...
My 2 older brothers have been sick; one of them, Ethan [18], got better for a day or two but then got sick again. My mom says he probably has bronchitis. :(
Well, this morning, he got up and was all light-headed. Then, he got dizzy and passed out and fell! But nobody was near him... :( Well, when he fell, he gashed his eye on something and (we're guessing) fell back from the impact and hit his head on something else!
All in all, he has a cut above his eye, a bloody nose, and a lump on his head! And he's still sick!!! So my mom has taken him to a doctor, but as usual, this happened on a Saturday so he has to go, not to the doctor, but to the far away, expensive emergency center!!
And another thing: My dad just worked extra to get a little extra cash and now he'll probably end up spending it all, and maybe more, today....
This day has had a pretty bad start!! :P
Please pray for my family not to lose heart!!
Well.... They're gone right now and who knows when they'll be back.... So, once again, please pray with me!!!!!!!!!!

I discovered this chapter of the Bible while reading for school. I hope you learn as much as I did. Here it is in a children's Bible.
You foolish people of Galatia! Who has put you under an evil spell? When I preached, I clearly showed you that Jesus Christ had been nailed to the cross. I would like to learn just one thing from you. Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law? Or did you receive the Spirit by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? You began with the Holy Spirit. Are you now trying to complete God's work in you by your own strength? Have you suffered so much for nothing? And was it really for nothing? Why does God give you his Spirit? Why does he work miracles among you? Is it because you do what he says? Or is it because you believe what you heard?
Think about Abraham. Scripture says, "Abraham believed God. God accepted Abraham because he believed. So his faith made him right with God." (Genesis 15:6) So you see, those who have faith are children of Abraham. Long ago, Scripture knew that God would make non-Jews right with himself by believing in him. He announced the good news ahead of time to Abraham. He said, "All nations will be blessed because of you." (Genesis 12:3; 18:18; 22:18) So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham. He was the man of faith.
All who depend on obeying the law are under a curse. It is written, "May everyone who doesn't continue to do everything that is written in the Book of the Law be under God's curse." (Deuteronomy 27:26) We know that no one is made right with God by keeping the law. Scripture says, "Those who are right with God will live by faith." (Habakkuk 2:4)
The law is not based on faith. In fact, it is just the opposite. It teaches that "the one who does these things will live by them" (Leviticus 18:5) Christ set us free from the curse of the law. He did it by becoming a curse for us. It is written, "Everyone who is hung on a pole is under God's curse." (Deuteronomy 21:23) Christ Jesus set us free so that the blessing given to Abraham would come to non-Jews through Christ. He did it so that we might receive the promise of the Holy Spirit by believing in Christ.
Brothers and sisters, let me give you an example from everyday life. No one can get rid of an official agreement between people. No one can add to it. It can't be changed after it has been made. It is the same with God's covenant. The promises were given to Abraham. They were also given to his seed. Scripture does not say, "and to seeds." That means many people. It says, "and to your seed." (Genesis 12:7; 13:15; 24:7) That means one person. And that one person is Christ. Here is what I mean. The law came 430 years after the promise. But the law does not get rid of God's covenant and promise. The covenant had already been made by God. So the law does not do away with the promise. The great gift that God has for us does not depend on the law. If it did, it would no longer depend on a promise. But God gave it to Abraham as a free gift through a promise.
Then what was the purpose of the law? It was added because of human sin. And it was supposed to control us until the promised seed had come. The law was put into effect through angels by a go-between. a go-between does not take sides. God didn't use a go-between when he made his promise to Abraham. But the same God was at work in both the law and the promise. So is the law opposed to God's promises? Certainly not! What if a law had been given that could give life? Then people could become right with God by obeying the law. But Scripture announces that the whole world is a prisoner because of sin. It does so in order that what was promised might be given to those who believe. The promise comes through faith in Christ Jesus.
Before faith in Christ came, we were held prisoners by the law. We were locked up until faith was made known. So the law was put in charge until Christ came. He came so that we might be made right with God by believing in Christ. But now faith in Christ has come. So we are no longer under the control of the law.
You are all children of God by believing in Christ Jesus. All of you who were baptized into Christ have put on Christ as if he were your clothes. There is no Jew or Greek. There is no slave or free person. There is no male or female. Because you belong to Christ Jesus, you are all one. You who belong to Christ are Abraham's seed. You will receive what God has promised.

Howdy, y'all!! Ever notice how everyone thinks people in Texas greet each other that way, but we never really say that? We say, "Hey, how ya doin'?" or "Hey, what's up?" like normal people. NO, Texans are NOT normal, no matter how you look at it!! But this is totally off the subject.
Anyhoo, do any of y'all ever get these giant multi-colored books from Reader's Digest that have, like, four books in one? They're called 'Select Editions' in a fancy font not shown here on HSB, and THAT is where I found this amazing book. I have a pink one, an aqua one, and a purple cross-faded one. Grace, by Richard Paul Evans (from the purple) is my favorite by far, mainly because it's the only one I can find with no bad language or adult content. If you absolutely can't stand romance, don't read it. And if you don't want to know what goes on in the head of a 14-year-old boy (it's written from Eric's POV), don't read it. But otherwise: PLEASE READ!!
Eric is a fourteen-year-old boy going through some tough changes, brought on by The Cuban Missile Crisis. His family moved from a suburb in L.A. to a dingy apartment in Salt Lake City. His dad was paralyzed and couldn't work. So he got a job at a local restaurant after school. That's where he met a different side of Grace, otherwise known as Madeline, a classmate at Granite Junior High. He takes her into the restaurant and feeds her, and learns that she has run away from home. Determined to help her, he decides to hide her in the clubhouse behind his house with the help of his ten-year-old brother, Joel. But now it's their job to keep her fed, clothed, and ultimately, hidden. As they celebrate Grace's 16th birthday, Halloween, and Christmas, Eric and Grace develop feelings for each other and learn her heartbreaking story. While the world as they know it searches for Madeline, Eric learns the price of grace.
Grace, by Richard Paul Evans, is one of the most amazing fictional books ever written. But that's just my opinion. Read it yourself!
"As the apple is not the cause of the apple tree, but a fruit of it: even so good works are not the cause of our salvation, but a sign and a fruit of the same."
~Daniel Cawdray
"The whole life of a Christian should be nothing but praises and thanks to God; we should neither eat nor sleep, but eat to God and sleep to God and work to God and talk to God, do all to His glory and praise."
~Richard Sibbes
(see 1 Corinthians 10:31)
"When the wheels of a clock move within, the hands on the dial will move without. When the heart of a man is sound in conversion, then the life will be fair in profession."
~William Secker
"The great thing to remember is that, though our feelings come and go, God's love for us does not."
~C. S. Lewis
"If we do not die to ourselves, we cannot live to God, and he that does not live to God, is dead."
~George MacDonald
"If you lack knowledge, go to school. If you lack wisdom, get on your knees! Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is the proper use of knowledge."
~Vance Havner
"God does not give us his power so that we might feel good about ourselves; he gives us his power so that we can obey him for his sake, for his glory."
It was a bright and sunny morning, and I was on my way to my flute lesson. My mom was driving, I was riding shot-gun, and Emma was sitting in the back seat working on her school. There were a few butterflies taking flight in my stomach, since I knew that I hadn't practiced much the past week, so I took a deep breath... and exhaled.
We turned the corner, where my mom dropped me off at my destination... the local highschool. This was where I would have my flute lesson with my wonderful teacher, Mrs. G. So I grabbed my flute and my books, opened the door and hopped out of the car. I walked quickly up to the big red doors which stood before me. Taking one last look behind me, I opened them and stepped inside.
Walking over to the blue door that opens up to the stairway, I looked to my right and saw another flute teacher and her student diligently working on a piece of music. Opening the door, I let it close behind me and started up the stairs. Skipping up rather quickly, for I was running a little late, I went to the first practice room. No Mrs. G. Looked in the second practice room, just the trumpet teacher and his student who looks vaguely familiar. Looked in the third practice room where Mrs. G. and I usually meet... no Mrs. G. So I looked in a few more practice rooms down the hall, but to no avail. Mrs. G. was nowhere to be seen.
Walking ever so quickly back the way I had come, I scurried down the stairs, through the blue door, down the hall and out the ever-looming red doors to the outside, with only a glimmer of hope that my mom hadn't left for the park yet. I looked around the parking lot and saw no tan mini-van in which sat my mom and sister. None at all. I leaned back against the brick wall of the highschool in despair, where I stood for what seemed like eternity. Then I figured that I would be safer inside, where there were people.
So I very nervously went back through those now-awful red doors, down the hall, through the blue door, and up the stairs ever so slowly... taking my time, as I now still had at least twenty minutes to wait for my mother's return. I took one last semi-hopeful glance into those starch-white practice rooms that I now so fearfully dreaded, and after seeing that there was no Mrs. G., nor would there be any Mrs. G. today, almost dropped all of my hope altogether.
And then I remembered that lyrics of a song about hope and where it can truly be found...
"In Christ alone my hope is found - He is my light, my strength, my song. This cornerstone, this solid ground - firm through the fiercest drought and storm... What heights of love! What depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My Comforter, my all in all, here in the love of Christ I stand."
...and also this verse...
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)
And I knew that I wasn't alone. I knew that God was with me. But still the shock of being 'stranded' in a public highschool was very nerveracking, and I was afraid. It was like I was stuck in a living nightmare, and I was almost in tears. But I managed to hold it together, and when the trumpet teacher came and asked me about my presence in the school, I explained - with a bit of a shaky voice - that I was simply here for a lesson with Mrs. G. I asked him if she was here or not, though I knew the answer. He replied that he'd go ask around to see where she is.
Whe he came back, he replied that she was home sick. When I asked him if there was a phone I could use to call my mom, he gestured down to one of the teachers who told us to come around to the office. There he called Mrs. G. and kindly asked why she wasn't there. He let me talk to her, and she explained that her eyelids were really hurting, and that they had some blister-type-things on them. Now I knew. But I was still at a public highschool... alone... by myself... but now I had a phone in my hand - the phone which was the answer to my prayer - the only way to freedom.
As I dailed my mom's phone number, I was deeply trying to control myself... I'm not gonna' cry... I'm not gonna' cry...
Then I heard it - heard the thing which spoke freedom - the thing which belonged to the person with the car. I heard my mom's voice...
The following is probably my very favorite poem that is not from the Bible. I had to memorize it a few years ago, and it was so nice to be reminded of the humor that is contained in these few lines of pure genius. This poem is derived from "The Old Man's Comforts and How He Gained Them" by Robert Southey.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are old, Father William Lewis Carroll
‘You are old, Father William,’ the young man said,
‘And your hair has become very white;
And yet you incessantly stand on your head -
Do you think, at your age, it is right?’
‘In my youth,’ Father William replied to his son,
‘I feared it might injure the brain;
But, now that I’m perfectly sure I have none,
Why, I do it again and again.’
‘You are old,’ said the youth, ‘as I mentioned before,
And have grown most uncommonly fat;
Yet you turned a back-somersault in at the door -
Pray, what is the reason of that?’
‘In my youth,’ said the sage, as he shook his grey locks,
‘I kept all my limbs very supple
By the use of this ointment - one shilling the box -
Allow me to sell you a couple?’
‘You are old,’ said the youth, ‘and your jaws are too weak
For anything tougher than suet;
Yet you finished the goose, with the bones and the beak -
Pray how did you manage to do it?’
‘In my youth,’ said his father, ‘I took to the law,
And argued each case with my wife;
And the muscular strength, which it gave to my jaw,
Has lasted the rest of my life.’
‘You are old,’ said the youth, ‘one would hardly suppose
That your eye was as steady as ever;
Yet you balanced an eel on the end of your nose -
What made you so awfully clever?’
‘I have answered three questions, and that is enough,’
Said his father; ‘don’t give yourself airs!
Do you think I can listen all day to such stuff?
Be off, or I’ll kick you down stairs!’
Well, I'm here!! Thanks, Micah and Renee for the great intro of me! And now for my intro of me...
I'm a 13-year-old 8th grader like Renee. We are in the same symphony and sit in the very same row in choir. In fact, her birthday is two days before mine. I've taken violin for 5 years and private voice for two, though I've been in choir for 8 years. I also dance, and have been since I was 3 (ten years!! wow), and I've been on the dance team at my studio for 6 years. So you can say music affects almost everything I do. Imagine doing all this and hating music.
But more important than all of this stuff, I've come to know the Lord Jesus Christ personally and I love him with all my ♥. As Paul says in Philippians 3:4b-8, 14 (NIV):
If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless. But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I might gain Christ;14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
The purpose of the bold statements was to make sure you don't take this the wrong way. I'm not saying I'm perfect, I'm far from it; and I'm not perfect at making sure God gets the glory when I use my talents. But life is a journey, not a destination. The most important thing I do is AWANA, a bible club from kindergarten through high school. Without it I never would have found those verses. I'll admit the Bible needs to be a more important factor in my life, and without AWANA and the Bible study I do in school I'd probably never read it. So I've determined to post something Bible-related at least once a month, in the hopes that it will keep me reading. Y'all don't mind helping me, do you??
I leave you now with the tip to read Philippians. It's a very uplifting book, and it reminds me that I have no excuse not to praise God!! For that I turn to Psalms.
You'll get to know me very quickly as the weeks go by!!
We have a new writer joining the weheartmusic scene! Her name is Tabitha (aka Tabby), and she is one of our best friends. :)
Tabitha has played the violin for five years, and is the concert master in symphony. She is also involved in choir, and is an alto with Renee on the back row.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
~ Philippians 4:6 ~
"Listen to my cry for help,
my King and my God,
for to you I pray.
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation."
~ Psalm 5:2-3 ~
"Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy."
~ Daniel 9:18 ~
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."
~ Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) ~
"In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out."
~ Ephesians 6:18 (The Message) ~
"Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere"
~ Ephesians 6:18 (NLT) ~
≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈
In case you were wondering why I put Ephesians 6:18 in three different translations, was because I was always a little confused as to why we would pray for 'saints'. I didn't understand that 'saints' just meant 'believers in Christ'... I thought it meant 'angels' or something like that.... just to clear that up. :)
≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈♥≈
All of the verses listed above have one thing in common -- prayer requests. God tells us to present our requests to Him, and He will hear us, and answer us because we are His children. These are thre three answers to our prayers...
Yes
No
Wait
Depending on your question, you get a different answer.
I sure hope you enjoyed my 'short-and-sweet' post! God bless,
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."
- John 6:51 -
≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈
As I opened the loaf of bread to get out four slices for two sandwhiches, I took out the heel and went out to the backyard to throw it over the fence so that the birds could have a snack. Daisy (our puppy) saw me breaking up the bread and thrusting it with little gusto over the fence, and she came and sat down next to me - asking for a piece of the bread.
I fed her a piece, and she gobbled it down with much excitement as I continued to break and throw the heel over the fence. Having only done half of the heel, I fed her another piece: this time she ate it without timidity, because she remembered how good it had tasted! I threw the rest of the pieces of bread over the fence, but saved back another piece for Daisy. I fed it to her, and then walked back toward the house.
When I realized that she was not following close behind me like she normally does when I give her a treat, I turned around. She was trying to jump the fence to get the rest of the bread. She had observed me throwing it over, tasted it, and knew what was good, and where to get it.
"Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him."
- Psalm 34:8 -
≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈♦≈
We should be just like Daisy in our walks with Christ. We should crave the bread of life - we should remember how good it tasted when we first received it - how excited we were to eat of it! Then we should eat it with gusto, and tell others about how good it is! We should be willing to jump the fence to go and get some more of it.
How often we find ourselves throwing away the heel of bread, just because it has a little bit of the hard crust. All we find ourselves wanting is the soft part of the bread. Little children ask their parents all the time to 'cut off the crust'. But the crust is the part that is rich in antioxidants, and is actually healthier than the rest of the bread. (see Science Daily for more info on that) So the heel, then, would be the most healthiest slice of the bread. And what did I do this afternoon? I threw it over the fence. I threw the healthiest slice of the bread over the fence, just because it didn't taste as good.
We do this so much in life! We want what 'tastes good' or 'feels nice'. Not always what is best for us. Each time I see a heel of bread from now until I die, I will forever be reminded of this little tid-bit that God has shared with us in the simplest, most awesome way imaginable!
One of the hardest things for girls today is the topic of modesty. Everyone has a different opinion of modesty - a different opinion of what the 'rules' for it are. Below are some basic 'guidelines' for dressing modestly, starting from bottom to top...
Shoes:
There's really nothing here that would be a problem, except for maybe really high-heeled shoes with criss-crossing straps that go up the calf.
Pants:
For pants, I would suggest nothing too tight. If it takes you a lifetime just to put your jeans on, then that's a good sign that they're a little too tight. :) If the reason you wear these is you are currently uncapable of buying some new jeans, then that's fine - just try to wear a longer shirt that goes over the the seat.
Shorts:
Inside the house...
If you have any questionable pairs of shorts, stand up and place your hands down at your sides. Where do your fingertips fall? If your shorts are above your fingertips, then your pants are too short. If yoru shorts are below your fingertips (or right at them), then they are probably fine.
Outside the house...
Even if you're just going outside to get the newspaper or check the mail, please follow these guidelines! :)
Bermuda (or knee-length) shorts are what I wear outside the house. This is pretty self-explanitory, since they're "knee-lenth" shorts. Shorts are the knee, not above or below. Capris would be even better, though I don't really like them for some reason unbeknownst to me... :)
Please note that I do wear the shorter shorts for P.E. and stuff like that, since all of my pants are denim, which doesn't breath very well.
Skirts:
I usually wear knee-length skirts, that are either at or below the knee. I don't appreciate mini-skirts at all, even when they are worn with leggings, and frankly, I don't think many people do.
Shirts:
Sleeves...
Inside the house...
For shirts inside the house, I would reccomend nothing less than a tank-top. And even then, you should probably wear that only at night-time... especially if you've got brothers around. I am only seen in shirts that cover up my shoulders. I do not like tank tops, or even the shirts with the little cap sleeves - I need at least T-shirt-length sleeves. :)
Outside the house...
For shirts outside the house, I always wear shirts that cover up my shoulders. I understand that some people like to wear tank tops in the summer, but I don't - even down here in Texas - in the land of 106° weather! :)
Neckline...
1. Make a 'thumbs up' sign with your hand.
2. Take the tip of your thumb and put it in the little 'V' of your collarbone. (don't push too hard!)
3. See where your thumb attaches to your hand (you might have to use your other hand to mark the spot), and that is the line that your neckline shouldn't pass.
Also, try to avoid shirts that have a far-spread neckline, as they have a tendency to slip off your shoulder if you do too much physical activity.
Jewelry:
Jewelry is really not that big of an issue - all I can say is try not to overdo it! Try to stay away from the big earrings, especially the hoop kind, as they tend to make you look older than you are.
These are just my modesty basics that I try to abide by. Feel free to adapt them as your own, or if you have a different idea of modesty, I'd love to hear about it! :)
So I've been thinking, and praying... and praying, and thinking, and I think it'd be best if I cut way back on blogging. Yes, I know what you're thinking... "But you already have!!" I know... but I mean maybe we could turn this blog into more of a 'article/magazine' type thing. Micah and I could write about the history of music - how certain instruments developed, biographies on composers and musicians, etc. What do y'all think? Would y'all enjoy that more than an empty little blog? :) I know I would enjoy it more. I would also learn stuff while blogging, whereas right now, I'm just kind-of... doing it, and not enjoying it all that much.
Micah's on vacation right now, so it's kind-of hard to discuss this with her at the moment. But as soon as we get things figured out, we'll post to let you know.
Please give us any thoughts or suggestions you might have, as it will help us make our decision.
Hey y'all!!
Guess what!? I'm in Arizona!! I'd tell you about my trip so far, but it's awfully hard to type on an Ipod!! You'll just have to wait till next Saturday! :)
I will tell you, though, that I crawled through a small section of a lava-tube and climbed all over a volcano! And that yesterday I toured the painted desert and the petrified forest! Ok so you got a little out of me... :P
That's all for now, I'll be back when I can!!
Not really, they're actually just logical. See we were going to Colorado too, but they said it was too cold and we'll go some other time...oh, well! anyhoo...
In one week, exactly, I will be in Santa Fe, New Mexico!
I am SO excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, by the way...that means I will be gone for two weeks ...then again....As long as I can get an internet signal I can still keep y'all updated!
Wow, is it just me or am I using an awful lot of faces? Oh, well!
Oh, and I promise to tell you all about it when I get back.
So sorry we've neglected our blog lately... I can' t really give a good excuse as to why, I just know that our blog is quite empty... :( It's probably due to the fact that we have nothing to post about.
My sister's heart is doing great! The doctor said that it was probably due to her medication. Thanks for all y'all's prayers for her!
I got a new crochet book, so I'll hopefully be making some things and posting pictures of them! :) I'm super excited because there's some really cute slippers in there.
I am still needing to post a picture of my apron that I made... :P Sorry for the delay... on everything. :(
