Summer Update!
Well, it has been a while since I posted! We had been working hard on our Attentiveness unit--studying the senses, music and composers until the last week or so.
We are now taking a bit of a break from our "full" KONOS schedule to focus on some "basics" of school that we need to catch up on (after being interrupted with moving earlier this year). At the same time, we are taking time off each week to enjoy the summer weather and work on special projects.
Amazingly enough, my kids are not minding continuing their studies at all over the summer. My oldest especially is finally more motivated than she has been in quite awhile to work on her reading, reports and math. The three oldest are also continuing their music lessons through the summer. It is such a blessing to see them enjoying what they are learning!
Meanwhile, I have been mulling over exactly what units we want to do for the coming year, working on preparing for our KONOS Planning Day that will take place in a few weeks and just trying to get caught up on my projects! I already have this "Master Plan" for units that we will cover taking my oldest daughter through 12th grade, but each year I sit down to re-evaluate and make sure the topics I had picked will work well with our plans for the coming year. I then make changes if needed to what I had previously planned out.
Our big units for the coming year are going to be: Africa, the American War for Independance and Weather. We have a number of shorter units thrown in also to fill out the year. Those shorter units are the ones that I am now looking at possibly moving around to accomodate our family being able to co-op with another family for the Africa unit in the Fall.
As I have been looking over the Africa unit (from the In-a-Bag set), I am getting more and more excited about doing this unit and realizing I will need to allot more time for our studies of this unit! The character focus of this unit is Stewardship. I am looking forward to diving into this character trait as well as learning all about Africa!
I will share more about what we are learning as we go through the summer and get started with our "new school year" in August.
Hope you are having a wonderful summer!

We school year round as well and it has been great! I know I will appreciate it even more in the fall when I DON'T have to reteach a few things. We do take things a day at a time and relax and take fun days to go to the beach and to visit friends.
I just love the flexibility of homeschooling, don't you?
Have a great week!
