On Our Journey Westward

The Final Countdown

Posted in School

I know many of you homeschool year 'round and as much as I think the idea is wonderful, I enjoy my nice, long summer break too much.  (Not to mention canning and freezing season makes doing school almost impossible in the summer.)  Anywho - we have only TWO WEEKS left!  Can you just feel my excitement??  I'm literally jumping up and down in my computer chair right now!

I'll be doing some posts soon about wrapping up the school year, thinking ahead to next year and some of our summer plans.  But for now, I'm just basking in the wonderfulness of the words - ONLY TWO WEEKS LEFT!

I can't decide if homeschooling is harder with a baby or a toddler.  I'm leaning toward toddler.   I don't think I can count the number of papers he has either run off with or scribbled upon.  I'm also not sure how many pencils have no erasers due to him biting them off.  I think he still has pen and marker on his tummy from somehow finding those tools and trying to turn himself into living art (more than once).  Needless to say, the baby chasers (older children and myself) are all ready for a break from school.

We're finishing off the year with a Renaissance Artist unit.  In history, we last studied the Middle Ages and next year takes us into early American history, so a bit of Renaissance history with a slant towards art will be just the thing to make the history connection and end the year with some really fun projects.  Lord willing, I'll keep you posted on the artists we choose to study and the projects we do.

Apr. 25, 2008 - our school

seems to keep going on. We will be doing Math into the summer, due to quests and visitors this year.
It's just to hard to do school when family is visiting.

It's so hot here during the summer, I kind of like doing fun things like Health or something to keep us front sitting in front of the boob tube.. LOL.

Enjoy the soon to be break!

We have three weeks left. Yippie. We will resume school after a seven week break which is about the time my kiddos get antsy. My Tom Sawyer cried when he heard the school was almost out. Can you believe it. I told him we would still do art and science just for him. He seemed somewhat satisfied.
Blessings,
Dawn

We love our long summer breaks. We end up having so much to do and every year we each make a summer "to do" list and we work our way through as the weeks go past.

We have four weeks of official school left so we are not far behind you. June is busy but July will be sooooo nice to just enjoy the time off.

Apr. 27, 2008 - Well,

Posted by nancysnook
we started in July so we actually have gone over on days. I know there are one or two sick days that I forgot to post on the Homeschool Tracker, but right now we're at 191 days. I don't tell her when public school is out and since we rarely watch tv she doesn't notice that she's gone over with the extra days. I'm not really looking forward to the hotter weather but the break will be nice.

I have to have at least a month or so off. My house suffers tremendously if I don't take time to work on those projects that never get done otherwise:)

Yes, I'd say that hschling with a toddler is more challenging, especially when they want 'in' on what you're doing.
Wow, we still have about a month and a half left to go. We'll finish the middle of June.

About Me

Welcome to my blog! I'm a homeschooling mom to three of the sweetest children - 11, 8 and 1. We use a very eclectic style - mostly Charlotte Mason mixed with classical. We love unit studies, lapbooking and notebooking. And books, books, books! Personally, I love to encourage and inspire homeschoolers new and old.
