Check Out Our NEW Nature Blog, "FOR THE BEAUTY"

We are a homeschooling family that has our mix of funnies and failures, along with triumphs & successes. I am a recovering perfectionist, who is ever so grateful that I serve a perfect Savior. He teaches me that I have a lot to learn, but also that He has brought me a long way.
I have been the bride to the most gracious, sweetest man in the world for the last 10 years. What I love most about him is that he is always striving to be a better husband, father, and child of God.

I am also the blessed mama to
OUR TWO GIFTS:
a creative 8-yo Darling Daughter who loves pink, dresses and reading, along with a new-found passion for horses, and a 4-yo tremendously adventurous Little Man-in-training who loves bugs, dirt, running, and eating.

On this site, I share about our homeschool, life, and other assorted odds & end. I also LOVE information and helpful resources to help us along our homeschool journey, so I make sure to add those in too so they can be passed along to others who might also find them useful.

It's a women's ministry that was started in Richmond, Va, and when we moved from there, I decided to start one down here. While I’m not doing it this year, please feel free to glean away from my entries of all the programs & devotions we did.)

"The bringing up, as of a child, instruction; formation of manners. Education comprehends all that series of instruction and discipline which is intended to enlighten the understanding, correct the temper, and form the manners and habits of youth, and fit them for usefulness in their future stations. To give children a good education in manners, arts and science, is important; to give them a religious education is indispensable; and an immense responsibility rests on parents and guardians who neglect these duties." ~Noah Webster~

Our New Year Celebrations

We decided to make our New Year's Eve relaxing, fun, and very family-focused.  It started with Little Man helping me make chocolate chip cookies.  He was a BIG helper and kept telling me that he was a "big boy to do such haaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd work!"  It was a hoot when he said, "I'm supero-ing it, Mommy" -- he's been paying attention to his sister's Latin. (translation: "I conquer!")

Then, Darling Daughter decided that we "simply MUST" have a dancing party, so she donned on old prom dress of mine that is one of her favorites to dress up in, and then came to find me.  "What are you going to wear, Mommy?"  Knowing I couldn't disappoint her high hopes and feeling like seeing the expression on Darling Hubby's face, I had her come to my room and we searched the depths of my closet for one of my few formal gowns.

We had a candle-lit dinner of Glorified Chili , along with fresh-baked cookies for dessert.  Then the dancing began!  Little Man sported a jacket we keep around for dress-up and the four of us danced and laughed and played the night away to some fun classical waltzes and big band music.  We even tried out some of the new games the kids had received from Christmas.  Afterwards, we "fast-forwarded" the schoolhouse clock on our wall to chime out "midnight" for us (really it was 9pm), and then toasted with sparkling apple cider to a "Happy New Year!"

For the first day of the year, we went to the golf course where DH played a few holes while the other 3 of us encouraged him and snuggled together in the golf cart.  We love to go golfing as a family -- what a joy it is to spend time together and see the glorious nature there is on the course.

Afterwards, we ate out at a favorite resteraunt (where Little Man decided to see what would happen to a styrofoam cup when you stabbed its side with a butter knife -- RESULT:  vast and quick leakage!  Our waitress was kind, as she had little ones of her own and Little Man was told he doesn't need to repeat his experiement ever again.)

We wrapped up our "first family outing of 2008" by going to the beach and enjoyed flying a kite. It was an EXTREMELY blustery day, but we had a great time even if we were a bit wind-blown.

What a wonderful time you've had! I laughed when I read about what your son did to his styrofoam cup. That's exactly the kind of experiment my son would have tried.

Thank-you for your comment on my blog. I would like to add you to my friends list. I have enjoyed visiting your bog and I love the colours of it. It sounds like you had a fun New Year's! I had a friend alter some old bridesmaid dresses for dress-up for my dd. It sure makes them feel special to wear a fancy dress!

What a wonderful way to see in the New Year! We're anxious to go to the beach. We've been staying away due to red tide in the waters for the last couple of months. Do you ever deal with that up your way? It's a nasty bacteria in the water than causes respiratory problems. Our beaches have been littered with dead fish and now manatees have started dying.

What an awesome way to bring in the New Year! Baking cookies with your little one, dressing up in fancy clothes, playing fun music, and dancing the night away. Now, that's my kind of night! What an incredible precious, precious memory for you to hold tight. I hope you have many more nights such as this one this coming year.

"Watch for the storms of God. The only way God plants His saints is through the whirlwind of His storms. Will you be proven to be an empty pod with no seed inside? That will depend on whether or not you are actually living in the light of the vision you have seen. Let God send you out through His storm, and don’t go until He does. If you select your own spot to be planted, you will prove yourself to be an unproductive, empty pod. However, if you allow God to plant you, you will "bear much fruit" (John 15:8)." ------------ My Utmost for His Highest, March 11th

We chose "Longhome" from Eccl.12:5 KJV, to keep us ever mindful that our eyes, hearts & lives should be focused on our longhome: HEAVEN!

• We take an eclectic approach: This year we are using Classical Conversations with Charlotte Mason ideas integrated in, and as always, many trips to the library!

• We approach learning as fun & something we do all of the time. Once we are done with the 3R's for the day, we dive into the things we want to learn more about or that interest us.

Show and Tell Remember doing this in Kindergarten? What to participate in an on-line version? Come join us!
