This past schoolyear was challenging due to health issues, but we faced them together as a solid unit, a family dedicated to helping each other through the tough times, and I thank God everyday for the beautiful sweet children he has given me the privilege of raising. I love the fact that despite the realities my children have had to face, they remain happy, well-adjusted, sweet and optimistic about life and their futures.
There were only "happy clouds" in the sky LOL, no angry clouds haha
I took the kids and one of Rachie's friends to Lake George, we spent the whole afternoon there-then I picked up some pizzas from Pizza Hut for them and had them eat at one of their favorite parks.
Just taking a moment before bed to Thank GOD for the sweet darlings I have been blessed with.
They really are adorable, and aware of their spiritual need, and developing into caring human beings. I feel proud and privelaged to have spent all my time and energy on molding them into the people they are today. I couldn't be happier with who they are, and considering the hell they have been through in recent years, it's been no small feat keeping things together and holding down the fort, all the while maintaining a healthy educational and social routine for them. I could not have made it this far without the caring and concern of my family, friends and of course, JEHOVAH.
I am truly blessed!! I am delivering quarterly reports to the homeschooling office tomorrow. WOW does time really fly or what? lol

see? ahead of the extension schedule as originally thought
My next reports for this current quarter are due on April 21st, so that won't be a problem at all.
I'm all over it
I had called the homeschooling office a few weeks ago telling them that my quarterly reports were going to be late due to my children's scabies situation (which THANK GOD is almost OVER yay!)...so I have until April 1st to submit them, but I know I will get them in much sooner, probably 2nd week in March according to my calculations. I already set up the templates of their reports on their homeschooling sites so all I've have to do is just fill in the content and grades once I am ready to wrap up our academic agenda for this past quarter. The district has been aware of what has been going on with my children since the beginning of this scabies nightmare, so they have been very helpful and understanding.
I have been taking java computer programming, so I am going to introduce my children to the java computer language too. Hey, you can never start too early LOL
Today the kids and I spent the afternoon going over the Democratic Presidential hopefuls and the Republican Presidential hopefuls (UPDATE: Romney is QUITTING the presidential race LOL). They learned their personal histories and we reviewed the basic differences between the Republican and Democratic parties, the ideologies involved, the core of what it means to be "Liberal" or "Conservative"...so naturally the subject of fascism and communism came up. The kids were pretty animated when engaged in a spirited discussion over the impact (or potential impact) that fiscally conservative Republican-sponsored legislation has on the middle class and the poor. Nevertheless, being Christian, the children realize that they are to remain neutral in all things political and military. *motherly pride beaming*!!!
Off to do MORE LAUNDRY
...boy you really do find out who your true friends are and which members of your family really do care.
Don't ask how, when, where or WHYYYYYYYYYYYY but my children came down with SCABIES!!
It is a MIRACLE of God that I do not have them myself! I went to the dermatologist yesterday just
to be *sure* and NOPE, NOTHING!! Definitely a MIRACLE since I have been the one handling all
the cleanup of the environment.
I know now that my family is THE BEST!!! So supportive and people of ACTION, not mere words or
"empty offers"....they really do love my children and they make sure my children KNOW it and FEEL it,
and for that I am sooo grateful to God. Also my children have been very blessed by the kindness of
strangers (dare I say said strangers have helped MORE than other RELATIVES of my children!)
I have been using a product called "Lice B Gone" and so far, so good! There is definite improvement in
how the children have been feeling and the appearance of their skin. Thank you Jim Rompel...you are
an ANGEL!!! My HERO!!!

Last Thursday the kids and I took a train to Delaware to stay with a friend of mine. She lives on 3 acres of beautiful country lined with woods. On Friday we went to Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ, and on Sunday evening we went to an amusement park in Delaware. On Tuesday we went to The Ben Franklin Institute Museum in Philly. The train ride back was very relaxing, now that we are no longer intimidated by navigating the scene making the connecting train from Penn Station in NYC. The children had never taken a train before. The fall foliage down and back was incredibly gorgeous. Rachael took so many scenic pics on the way back. I will post the pics as soon as humanly possible. lol
looks like I figured it out kids! LOL
Rachael's homeschooled friend is coming over soon, Zach's reading National Geographic now and Jacob is on the Internet. Supposed to be 90 degrees today??? what the?? lol

My daughter's homeschooled friend Sammy has been staying with us for the last few days, she goes back home on Friday though. Anyway there is another homeschooled friend who comes over just about daily also and her name is Zhalih. The three of them are great pals, which is so cute. Then when my neighbor/friend's daughter Valerie gets home from private school they all get together. I love it, my daughter's friends are such sweethearts!
Sunday I made pumpkin pie, yesterday I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, this morning I am getting ready to make pumpkin bread. Then I will have to make my signature curried pumpkin soup - my daughter has been BEGGING me to make that LOL I love it! She loves this time of year just as much as I do and she loves all my signature dishes that I make. The boys are a different story - Zach detests chocolate, and while Jacob does enjoy the pumpkin recipes (not the soup though) - he is definitely nowhere near as adventurous with his taste buds as my little Rachie.
So far this week it's been all about computer data entry, writing, drawing, and enjoying the sunshine.

Well so far this year there have been a few new additions to the home library:
Hot Words for the SAT by Linda Carnevale (Great teaching tool, has you teaching the kids vocabulary words in clusters which fosters exponential vocabulary growth..this is unlike linear vocabulary building which involves learning one isolated, alpabetized word at a time. Exponentially building vocabulary involves dynamically associated clusters of words, with varying nuances or shades of meaning within the cluster...for example our first lesson from this book is as follows:
WORDS RELATING TO USING FEW WORDS OR BEING QUIET
Brevity, Concise, Laconic, Pithy, Quiescent, Reticent, Succinct, Taciturn, Terse <--- cluster of words with similar meanings, but with nuances of differences within those meanings
EVEN MY 9 YEAR OLD CAN DO THIS!! This is great, I don't have to dumb down any of the reading or language arts for him. He's such a little brain, I love that little stinker! hehheheh
Ok so I also bought the CollegeBoard SAT "The Official SAT Study Guide" which has 8 practice tests, and helps with preparation for the SAT essay and there is also PSAT review in there (I also have the Peterson's PSAT guide too for that)
And let's not forget the fact that sitting on my bookself is also the Kaplan 2007 gold edition SAT ACT PSAT Test Prep Software. We've got all angles covered here back at the ranch hehehhehe
God I love being a NERD!! LOL Last night the book club I started met at my friend Diane's house. And now I have a few friends from out of state who want me to begin an online forum of the book club so they can participate via the internet. Funny huh? I love my nerdy friends too hehehehhe We had Chai tea and I made brownies (let's not talk about that LOL because they were not my best batch but all the ladies were like "THESE ARE GREAT" and I was like, "YAH RIGHT!!!" lol, oh well, they love me that's all that matters I guess hehhehh) We just finished The Time Traveler's Wife...and the next selection is THE LOVELY BONES by Alice Sebold.
http://www.readinggroupguides.com/guides3/lovely_bones1.asp <--- reading discussion guide that we are going to be following. Well my children are still asleep - it's 10am so I am going to start cleaning my kitchen, exciting huh? I love it!! heheheh
Well this summer has been pretty laid-back and fun, with many trips to area parks, the library, bookstores, the movies, the mall, playing tennis a few times, etc. The kids read The Giver and are still in the midst of reading Gathering Blue, also by Lois Lowry.
Brandon is leaving soon so we're packing in last minute fun. Joey needs a haircut badly LOL
Well my nephew is finally back - came up the weekend of June 3rd...with my sister. We had a great time together, of course. My nephew Brandon came up with some work that he has to have completed for when he enters the 6th grade at a very prestigious school for music he will be attending in the fall. Mind you he had to audition to get into this school, I am SO PROUD OF HIM!!!! He's my baby too ya know!!!
Brandon has to read two books for his upcoming year, "Gathering Blue" by Lois Lowry & "So B. It" by Sarah Weeks. So I guess I didn't have to think too hard about what my kids will be reading this summer. LOL But I am taking it a step further and requiring all the children to read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry before reading "Gathering Blue", since "Gathering Blue" is "A Companion to the Newberry Award Winner The Giver"
My quarterly reports for this past quarter are due on June 22nd. Wow that's coming up fast.
I had a HOUSE FULL of kids last night, what else is new???? Wouldn't have it any other way though, YOU KNOW IT!! So DEAL WITH IT!! lol
It's 9:23 am on a Saturday and of course all the kids are still ASLEEP. I just threw in some laundry and soon will be hitting it hard on the Total Gym. The battle of the bulge (bulges??lol) continues!!!! I will not accept defeat LOL
