Being content.....
"We are where we are because the Lord told us so, for such a time as this"  Sometimes we say things without thinking and this is one of them, it just popped out of my mouth. I noticed how sometimes people are so miserable and how they would like to drag you along with them.
I received a phone call from someone and their first remark was: "What are you doing here in this ugly, flat Indiana?" and they went on to say:"There is nothing here in Indiana".....So, you can guess what my response was. Not once by many times I've heard this from many people when they find out I am new to Indiana.
 
Sometimes we get settled with everyday life and ourselves we don't take the time to smell the roses around us. I once, was so confused and hurt, trying to make sense out of my life, I too made negative remarks about people, places and situations. What we forget is that when God is first and we are last, when life is for Him, not for me, it doesn't matter where you live, or what you don't have. It matters that we have a content heart. Contentment is not something you can just tell people to be, it's learned by practicing it. Being delighted in Him, talking about Him and praising Him, with the not so big stuff of life. Believe me this was a hard lesson for me to learn.
 
I have lived in 5 different states, and I can tell you a story about everyone of them. I have loved every place I lived in, maybe one is my least favorite, but, I don't need to go there. I also have learned to see my Abba's work in my life, through the places I have lived in. He has used places, people and situations to continue the work He started in me.
Let me tell about Indiana. Indiana, still has the charm and gentleness of the of the past, with friendly faces, smiles and hellos. No this is not the most glamour's beach or mountain skiing resort somewhere, but it's where I am to be for such a time as this, because He told me so. I love Indiana!
Phillipians 4:11I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Isn't it good to just be where the LORD wants us?

I have told my husband time and again when he jokes about moving to various places, that I'm content as long as he is with me. And how much more, just knowing that HE is with me, where ever I may go.

I haven't been to IN, but know of a wonderful Godly family from IN and have always had a good impression about the state because they are such super people. And I've made some wonderful blogger friends that live there - including you.

Do you have any family (dh's family) that live in IN?

That was a very encouraging post. We moved over 3 years ago from Illinois, outside Chicago, to a small (and I mean real small) town in Idaho. At first we loved it, I have now missed city conviences. Last summer all I did was grumble and complain, and I had the worst summer. Just as we were about to move to a bigger city, the Lord closed the door, and made it apparent He wanted us to stay here in this town. I knew then, I had to change my thoughts. I have started looking for the good around here, I try not to talk down about it at all (thought that still needs some work), and when I talk to dh or friends I always say, "I don't know how long the Lord has us here. I am content to say, this is where He has us for now, and I'm o.k. with that. What happens in the future, we'll deal with then." I can't look 10 years down the road and think we'll still be here. All I can do is say, Lord this is where you've place me right now, help me to grow here. But you know what, I haven't been saying that lately (forgive me Lord). Thank you for your post which helped me see a bad pattern I was allowing myself to fall back into.

Thank you so much for reminding me of this. I have been trying to move up north (country or mountain) for about two yrs now and everytime we are about to do it the doors close. Instead of praying for the LORD to open doors, I will now start praying for contentment of where He has me now.

I have a friend that God placed into my life about a month ago. I am so glad that he place her and her family here in IN. :o)

I have another friend who has lived all over the place. Now, Alaska is her favorite, but her second favorite is good ole Indiana!

Dh & I live out in the country, and I have loads of pictures on our computer of absolutely gorgeous works of art that our Lord has placed in the skies above. Maybe I will have to post on that soon!
