Roses and Tea

Nov. 14, 2007 - Friend Blogger School assignment # 9

I was so delighted when I read about this assignment for this is one of my most favorite times of the year.

Part A:
Share at least 3 “Bountiful Blessings” that the Lord has abundantly provided.

WOW! There are so many....
Food, shelter, good health, freedom of worship, peace, a car, DH's job and friends.

Part B:
Share your Thanksgiving Feast {past or present}

Past - I didn't grow celebrating Thanksgiving, we don't have it in Brazil. I do love this Holiday, it's one of my most favorites.  I like to stop and reflect of how blessed we are for God's Bountiful Blessings.

Present - Because of the fact that we have moved a lot, Every couple of years it seems our Thanksgiving is a little different. Some years we had it at our house, some years we have gone to relatives or friend's home. This year we are going to Grandpa's house in Ohio. If, I could I would have at my home every year. I love fixing the dinner and welcoming people into my home.

Our Traditions

~ When we have the dinner at our house..... DH always reads a passage of scripture, and we go around the table and say three things we are thankful for.

~ DH watches and enjoys his Football ~

~ DD and I go Shopping on Fridays, and watch a movie after our hard laboring day of shopping

My traditional menu (if we are at home)

Turkey

Creamed Gravy

Mashed Potatoes

Dressing

Green Bean Casserole

Corn Casserole or plain

Glazed Sweet Potatoes

Homemade Sweet Rolls

Frozen Cranberry Relish Salad

Cranberry Sauce (usually homemade)

Pumpkin Cheese Cake or plain sometimes both

 Pecan Pie

and

Pumpkin Pie.

Who carves the turkey?
DH loves to carve it, this is, if we have it at home.

Do you save the wishbone?
NO, never heard of such tradition.

What do you do with all those leftovers?
I always make sure I have plenty of leftovers, so that I don't have to cook for the next couple of days. This gives me plenty of time for SHOPPING the next day  and enjoy the weekend.

Part C:
Post a Scripture that reminds you of your blessings!

Psalm 103:2

"Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits."

mmm, all of it sounds great to me. Your a very brave woman to go shopping. I use to do it, just over the years I've giving it up. I did try last year, yet the kids didn't want to do this.

May you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving Feast.
Blessings,
Debbie

I really enjoyed reading your assignment. I never thought of having the freedom to worship. This may be one of those things that being born in US can be taken for granted. Your holiday menu sound scrumptious. You chose a wonderful verse as well. Have a blessed week and a very happy Thanksgiving.

Those sound like great traditions. Though I'm not going to do it as part of an assignment, I think I am going to blog about what we do for Thanksgiving. It sounds like fun. :)

Nov. 14, 2007 - Sounds Yummy....

I'll be right over! Hee Hee! Oh, you say Ohio, huh? Well, I pray that you all have a blessed day with your FIL. Eat lots of turkey.

I know you all don't celebrate Christmas, but what your dh does on Thanksgiving is what we do at Christmas. We read Matthew & Luke's account of the birth of Christ, and then we allow the kids to open 3 gifts a piece to represent the gold, frankincense, & myrrh that was given to Jesus. They have to tell something that they are thankful for before opening each gift.

Love ya,
Lori

I love the scripture you chose! Yummy menu, too! I love shopping but admit I avoid the malls at all cost that weekend, I can't stand the crowds.

Blessings!

wonderful Thanksgiving traditions. We won't be able to travel to be with my family this year, so we will go out to eat with my dh's family. At least we can relax and let someone else cook and clean up afterwards. Happy Thanksgiving!
