Real life's a little busy these days. We're trying to get the house ready to put on the market. Did you know that if you get enough white paint under your fingernails it looks like a French manicure? It does! And I learned today that baby oil is the perfect cleaner for black iron fireplaces. I'm trying to think through chapter 17 as I scrape wallpaper off the walls, but so far I've only written down one sentence...and I'm not at all sure that I'll keep it. This chapter needs a focus, and I don't have one yet. Right now in my mind it's just a series of mostly unconnected conversations that convey information, and it's not going to work. The problem is that there's not a self-evident focus, and coming up with one will take some more thinking.
It's interesting, though, to see how writing this thing is helping me improve as a writer. I know I still make tons of mistakes, craft-wise (for example, using words like "craft-wise"), but I know my skills are being sharpened in several ways, and it's kind of fun to see that.

Best wishes for the project, Barbara! Why is it we only get round to do these jobs when we have to move? Well, often, anyway. You'll find that ruminating on chapter 17 while painting and scraping will eventually help you to get the chapter written. I'm looking forward to it!
