Aug. 27, 2007 - Kitchen Makeover Done!

Another blessing to share...

I have mentioned a few times about the makeover DH and I did on our kitchen.  I finally have some "Before" and "After" pictures to show you!

This is what are kitchen looked like when we moved into this house - Fall 1999.  Adding 2 children and other necessary repairs (to other parts of the house) kept us from re-doing it ...until now!

And AFTER....

Yes,  that is the new fridge we bought last March with our tax return!  It's what started this whole makeover rolling - it was too tall for our exsisting cabinets so DH altered the ones above the fridge and they needed to be repainted.

I really enjoy the new "golden yellow" color on the walls.  It so cheery now and there is a whole wall that is yellow that you can't see in these pictures.   I chose nickel finish knobs to compliment the fridge but the biggest and best difference are the new countertops.  My husband took up the challenge and replaced them having never done anything like it before - it was a true  labor of love!  He did a great job! They are such a drastic change from the old laminate that I know was atleast 25 years old.

So all together, not including the refrigerator, this make-over costs us $500.00.  Over half of that was for the counter top and the supplies to install it.   The paint and primer took up a good chunk and then all the new hardware plus a new valance over the sink.

I'm really thankful to have this nice change in our kitchen -- a place where a lot of time is spent, as you homeschool moms well know!   Thanks for letting me share.

Jul. 12, 2007 - Victoria Magazine

Oh Happy Day!

I was just delighted (and that's a word I don't use often) to see that the lovely Victoria Magazine is once again going to be published!   It was one of my favorites about 10 years ago - mom and I would share them! They also have a limited web-site where you can subscribe on-line.

I've already placed my advance order for the premiere issue and am imagining a crisp, fall day in October when it arrives and I can "hide away" and soak up all it's femininity and romance --- I hope I'm not dissapointed!   If it still has the same tasteful and inspirational content I would be happy to subscribe again.  A guilty pleasure, I must admit.

Jul. 2, 2007 - Kitchen Project

I'm finally doing it!  I'm finally re-painting my kitchen!  We have lived in this home for 7 and 1/2 years and I have wanted to paint the kitchen for about 5.  When my DH bought me this beauty in March,  I knew it was time to jump in and get this project done!  (He had to cut away some of the cupboard above the fridge to make room since it was replacing a much older and much smaller model.)

I still have quite a way to go before the kitchen is finished. I'm soooo thankful for the help my sister (you'd say sister-in-law but I call her sister) has given me!  It's more fun working with someone, too!

Yesterday, we couldn't resist cracking open the new paint color ("Sand Dune") and trying it out.   For a couple years I had wanted to paint the kitchen RED but since my adjoining dining room is GREEN I changed my mine.  (Too Christmassy)  So, I decided on a yellow/gold color.  This picture shows you one wall....

it's a bit brighter than I anticipated (isn't paint funny that way??) but I plan to do a faux treatment over it with another gold shade called "Sweet Corn" so I think it will tone down a bit.

In addition to painting the walls and backsplash,  I am re-painting all the cupboards too.  -- not yellow, white!    I will post a picture of those when  I am further along... hopefully later this week.   Are you all tackling any summer projects?
