May. 23, 2008-The Smell of Fresh Bread
Two long weeks ago my trusty Breadman bread machine gave out. It was a birthday gift about 5 years ago from a generous friend and it has cranked out dozens of loaves of warm, crusty bread along with batch after batch of pizza dough.
With the price of EVERYTHING rising these days, it was not the time for me to run out to the store and plunk down $100 + for a new machine. I prayed that God would provide one for me and today he did.
Jordan was bugging me all day to take him to a garage sale he saw advertised in the paper. They listed they were selling a Palm Pilot that he wanted to check- out. Finally, around 3:00pm, we drove over there - it was my first garage sale this season. I spied it right away --

Guess what the price was?...
$5.00!
She had the owners manual for me and even threw in a bread machine cookbook!
The Lord truly wants to give us the desires of our heart! Our first loaf will be Cinnamon Raisin Bread and if all goes well we'll be enjoying it tomorrow morning about 7:30AM!
PS. He never bought the Palm Pilot.

Feb. 26, 2008-Birthday Time
We get a break from the "winter doldrums" by celebrating two birthdays at our house....
1st, in February, the "baby" turns THREE! He's all about "Go Diego Go" right now. :D I'm all about savoring each day because they are going by too fast!

And the next birthday is our eldest child and only daughter...

Now 15! Don't let having teenagers scare you -- we are enjoying ours!
Teens actually come with many perks -- for example, they keep you updated on the latest trends, they will clean the house for extra priveleges and they provide 'free babysitting' for your younger ones! She also keeps me on my toes -- seems like nothing I say or do gets by her... so built in accountablility! And teaching my teen High School (at home) has really challenged me but in a good way ( today was our first attempt at dissections...).

Dec. 19, 2007-Grandma...
Continuing my list of blessings - this is #72....
December the 18th is my maternal Grandmother's birthday. This year, she is 91 ! My parents took her out to breakfast this morning and invited me to go along which was a special treat. This post is in her honor...
I was born on December 17th at 11:45PM - I know my grandma was hoping I would hold out a few more minutes until I made my arrival but, you know, my mother's was NOT! So it turns out I was born the day before Grandma.
Since I was little, she has told me she had a special ring she would give me when I was older or when she passed on. I guess she thought I was finally old enough because she gave it to me last month. It is a special treasure to me and I will share her pretty photo and then the story behind the jewelry...

In this picture she is wearing the necklace and ring she gave to me. I feel so blessed. My grandfather (who died when I was 7) gave it to her as an 18th birthday present -- in 1934! The setting is sterling silver but I'm not sure what type of stones they are - it doesn't matter anyway, they are priceless to me.
One year and 7 days later (December 31, 1935) they were married.
I hope to someday pass them on to my own granddaughter.

Nov. 24, 2007-Thanksgiving and Family
It's about time I update this blog
!
Thanksgiving day was wonderful for us, quite cold and snowy, but great none the less. My mom continues to host Thanksgiving and does such a nice job getting everything ready for the family. Not only does she prepare a great dinner but the tables and everything are all decorated with real dishes and silverware, cloth napkins plus centerpieces of gords, pumpkins, berries,etc... Mom enjoys make the house warm and inviting for everyone and, more importantly, she and dad are so loving and caring to us all. We have a tradition of giving thanks after the meal. We go around the table and each person can say as much as they want and the kids join in as well. The cousins also take turns reading about the first thanksgiving. These family traditions make such special memories!
The Lord has blessed me with a Christian upbringing. My parents, as well as each of my siblings, know the Lord. I am so thankful for this privilege - I know many christians are praying for parents and siblings who are "lost". If this includes you than I would encourage you to keep praying for them and loving them and trust in our Lord who is sovereign. God has a plan.
Our family gatherings are always a fun time of fellowship for grown ups and kids alike! Many cousins are running around the house and the noise level is at various decibles depending which room you are in. The cousins range in age from 2 to 16 but everyone gets along very well. Mom keeps a "toy" room for them but the toys are always spread from one end of the house to the other by the time the day is over!
Thursday, after dinner, we got out some family videos -- ha ha
, those were really cracking us up! And on Thanksgiving we always pass around the Black Friday Ads so we can make lists of what we want to shop for.
This year Black Friday was also my sister (in law's) birthday. I was so happy to be able to go out shopping with her in the afternoon. Just this past year both of our oldest girls have grown old enough to babysit the younger ones for awhile so the mom's can get out occasionally! (My brother, her husband, was working or I know he would have taken her). Anyway, we braved the crowds and the lines and got some shopping done - laughing all the while. So, again, I just praise the Lord that he allows me to have a loving Christian family who actually enjoy each other!
Well, this is not at all what I intended to write about when I sat down to type up an entry -- funny how that happens! It's time for me to go but I want to leave you with a verse - always appropriate but especially for this weekend...
"Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to delcare." Psalm 40:5'

Oct. 13, 2007-counting my blessings...
It's time to stop again and take time to thank the LORD for all He's done for me and for all He blesses us with.
Thank you dear LORD for:
60. Our New Homeschool Co-op - we have really enjoyed this time of fellowship with other like-minded homeschoolers!
61. Autumn - Oh, the beauty of this season! What marvelous handiwork!
62. The 3 field trips we've been able to take so far this school year- two local museums and a restaurant tour. The total price I paid for admission for all 3 of these trips was $20.00, mostly due to visiting on Corporate Sponser Days. Thank you for this provision!
63. The great health we've been given this year and no major injuries!
64. My husband's 40th B-day - which means I have known him now for 25 years, 18 of which we have been married! :0D
65. All the fresh veggies we were able to harvest from our garden this year.
66. The cool, crisp fall weather - this means we can start lighting fires in the fireplace!
67. A day out shopping with my daughter - we shopped some "second hand" and some "new" where everything purchased was on sale.
68. Safety in our travels
69. Answered prayers and
70. for always being ready to hear my prayer!
"Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits." Psalm 103: 1 - 2

Aug. 23, 2007-Blessing list continues....
I have neglected to blog my blessings for awhile now so here goes....
These will be pretty random -
54. our school room - after 5.5. years of homeschooling in the dining room, it's just wonderful to have an actual designated school room to keep everything!
55. vacation days - we enjoyed being with "dad"/"hubby" for 3 whole weeks in a row this summer. We got a lot accomplished around the house and had some outings too.
56. ice cream - need I say more?
57. As of July, our 2 yr. old is now sharing a room with his brother and sleeping in his own bed! (He used to think our bed was his bed -- lol) Lovely having our bedroom back to ourselves.
58. garage sales - both to get rid of our stuff and to find new "stuff"! For the kids and I, garage sales and summer go hand in hand -- we try to do a garage sale day every few weeks or so.
59. County Fair - grandma took us last week on "Kids Free Day" . This has started to become a tradition that the boys look forward too each summer. Making memories....
COTTON CANDY!!!!

Jul. 8, 2007-Family Fun and Pictures too!
Wow! It’s been such as busy, crazy and fun week! I am working hard re-doing our kitchen and it’s coming along but it’s so time consuming painting the cupboard doors! I had hoped to be finished by now but I will probably post more on that another time.
Did you all have a fun Holiday week? I’m posting some pictures of the picnic/camp out we had at my sister’s home on the 3rd – 4th. Probably 25 people or so. It was great timing since it rained most of the 4th but our “celebration” was basically done by then.
#53. I’m very blessed with a wonderful family and we had lots of fun….

Ok, this little man (DS2) is in the Holiday Spirit! He was the official “door keeper” and enjoyed letting everyone in and out the screen door. Lol I'm so glad I had the camera and was able to catch him pick up this hat and put it on - my cutie!

My sis and family have a big inground swimming pool – the cousins/friends swam for several hours on Tuesday eve and even in the rain on Wednesday morning! That's DH11 in the 8 ft. deep end.

Here is my dad – he is singing for us as we sit around the campfire. I am blessed to have this wonderful, Christian father! We couldn’t sing because we were stuffing our mouths with smores and burned marshmallows. :o)
Later the kids caught fire flies - I wish I had got pictures of that too! (I was getting tired)

And this is my mom (she’s the best!) with our youngest son (DS2) at the campfire. It was waaaayyyy past his bedtime! He crashed when daddy finally took him in the tent. And the empty seat is mine!
....And today we spent time with my family-in-law! It was nice to see them again since DH’s sister and her family live out of state and we only get together twice a year. All the siblings, cousins (minus two) and even Great Grandma and Grandpa were there. We had a big feast, mom B. always goes all out with food!, and then we talked and some played Frisbee. I’m sad that we forgot the camera today but I’m thankful for this great Sunday! Spending time at church in worship & fellowship and then being able to be with family made for an awesome day.
So if the rest of the summer is anything like this past week -- it's gonna be great! Thank You, Lord for your blessings on me!

May. 28, 2007-I'm Grateful

# 50. Today I am thankful for my freedom.
#51. I am thankful for each US service man and woman who has given their life for it. I am grateful to the ones who continue to serve today. I am praying for you.
I think of the wives & children who are mourning the loss of their husbands and dads this weekend. You are hero's as well. Thank you for your sacrifice. There are many who are grieving and no words to express how much it means to me.
"The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are his everlasting arms. "
Deuteronomy 33:27
#52. I am also reminded of another kind of soldier - the Christian soldier. Again, I am thankful for those who have went on before me, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and bringing hope to the lost. I am thankful for the martyrs - they are an example to me of true devotion to our Lord and a biblical love for their enemies.
An estimated 165,000 Christians were martyred for their faith in the year 2000.
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose"
~ Jim Elliot - missionary speared by headhunters in Ecuador in 1956
