So much to say so little time

There has been so much going on since my last entry.  Last week we added to our family by 9.  We got a puppy and 8 chicks within 5 days.  The children are having so much fun watching the chicks.  For now we have them in the house in a big plastic box.  The children just sit by the box and watch them at whatever they're doing.  When they aren't watching the chicks or doing school they're usually outside playing with the puppy.  Used to be I had to make our 5 year old go outside (then she wouldn't want to come in) but now she wants to go outside and see her baby.
Today we had three visitors at our co-op.  It's so nice to see other families that have an interest in homeschooling their children.  The three families that visited had little boys that would be in our 5 year olds K-1 class.   If they all join, that class will be fun to teach in next year.  Not that it wasn't fun to teach this year, but with the addition of boys it won't be boring.
Well, I must close for now and get supper started so until next time.

Mar. 19, 2008 - Chicks

Posted by Gerald
When we got baby chicks three years ago, we kept them in our greenhouse until they were old enough to live outside. Our favorite form of entertainment during those weeks was to sit in the greenhouse at night and watch the antics of those little chicks. They would chase any insect that caught their attention with great enthusiasm! And if one did catch something, all the other chicks would chase it with equal fervor. They put on a great show for us every night!

I still wonder what the neighbors thought when they saw us sitting in that greenhouse late at night with all the lights blazing! We may have provided just as entertaining a show for them! :-)

Jul. 12, 2008 - How's the Homeschooling Going?

Posted by Gerald
How are things going on the homeschooling front?

My wife and I attended our first homeschooling convention a few weekends ago. We found that very helpful and rewarding. I can't wait until we get to the high school curriculum! There are quite a few books on the reading list that I would like to read myself.

I wanted to ask, did you finally decide on the Charlotte Mason curriculum? That's the one we are using and the whole family is thrilled with it so far. Our six-year-old is applying herself to everything with such gusto that we think she might finish first grade by December! :-)
