Summer's almost over??!!!

Where has the time gone?  I can't believe that one week from today we start co-op.  I'm going to be teaching about Creation and Dinosaurs.  I thought with five out of six children in the class being boys this subject might appeal to them.  I have plenty of books and activities I just need to get them organized a little so I won't be stubbling around next week.
The past week has brought plenty of excitement to our house.  My mom-in-law came last Monday and has been here helping with the children and other projects that we're trying to work on.  I went last Wednesday for an ultrasound and we found out the sex of our little tie breaker.  All I pray for is a healthy baby, but I'm excited to know also.  Especially since we thought that #4 was going to be it and I'd been getting rid of baby clothes as he's grown out of them.  The Lord has such a wonderful sense of humor.
This past weekend our chicks started layiing.  How exciting it was to go out to the coop and find that first egg.  Later that same day the children went out and found a second egg.  They were thrilled.  Since then we've been getting about one egg every day.  Today #3 and I went out to check and one of the chickens was in the nesting box so we quietly closed the door back and let her finish her job.  Husby came home for lunch and went out and found an egg.
I mentioned that mom-in-law was here helping out with other projects that we're working on also.  Saturday also found Husby working on remodeling our downstairs bathroom.  She came to help out with this project also.  They won't let me do much lifting so it's been a tremendous help having her here.  Sis-in-law came for a short overnight trip this past weekend also.  She and I went to Lowe's on Saturday and picked up some of the items husby needed.  She was a great help also.  Family is such a blessing.
I must confess I'm very proud of husby for tackling this project.  He has been doing a great job.  He's able to bounce ideas off his mom and others which has been helpful.  I was afraid that the remodeling would be a distraction for the children, but I'm finding that it's wonderful for them to experience this and to help out.  Mom-in-law was mudding the walls today and each of the three older children got to help out.  She said that #3 was a natural.  I wasn't surprised, I believe the Lord has put a great gift in him.  We just have to find it, without getting to frustrated on the journey.
School has been going fairly well.  The biggest problem has been keeping #4 occupied.  Some days he's content to play in his room or crib while we're doing school others he's not content doing anything but fussing.  I'm really finding out where #2 is having troubles.  I definitely haven't worked with her as much as I have with #1 or even #3.  I see a need to spend more one on one time with her.
I thank to Lord that I'm allowed to homeschool and spend this precious time with my children.  they're so creative and most days I'll admit they wear me out.  But I love it just the same.
Well, I must go for now, so until next time.

Sep. 3, 2008 - Tiny Eggs?

Posted by Gerald
Were any of your first eggs unusually small? Some of the first eggs we got from our chickens were as small or smaller than quail eggs!

We had so many chickens that we had to start giving eggs away almost as soon as they started laying. One friend of ours (a city girl) cracked open two eggs, saw the color of the yolk, and immediately got in the car to go to the store for more normal eggs. She thought there was something wrong with our eggs because the yolks were so orange rather than pale yellow! :-)

Our #2 (the equivalent of your #4) is SUCH a big help to our homeschooling days. He's into everything we are trying to use or do and thinks it's hilarious when we try to ward him off---or he thinks it horribly unfair that we won't let him play, too. Judicious use of nap times--that's the ticket! At least, we hope it is!

Good luck with the start of the Co-op! And also with the next few months.
