"I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music...."
Such has been my life lately. Actually, the quote is from Albert Einstein...and there's really no comparison...
What with the chamber music festival (which I'm not sure I told y'all about), my schedule for the past week has looked something like this:
7:30 am: A rude awakening from peaceful slumber, culminating in me reluctantly getting up and getting dressed.
9:00: We arrive at our music school, myself toting an enormously heavy guitar and a viola with the case handle broken. This means that the viola goes on my back and the guitar gets lugged on my right. Other necessities are added as required. After sleepily eating donuts and orange juice, the entire student body assembles for a brief musical lecture.
9:30: Chamber music, as you might know, consists of a small group of musicians, whatever the instruments. So at this time we scattered to various rooms and worked on the pieces assigned to our small group. The most exciting song by far was the one composed by our friend Josh, which he wrote about on his blog. I may be posting a video of it soon--it's pretty incredible.
12:30: Lunch break--a convenient time for a run to Sonic down the road. :-)
1:30 pm: Into the big room for a master class (performances in front of the students, while the helpers give constructive criticism), while other students go to the rooms to practice.
3:30: The day is done! Or...it's supposed to be.
4-8:00: This is the time of day when I become exceedingly tired and cranky, since it turns out we have to hang out various places rather than go home and sleep. What a bummer! At 8:00 every night there were concerts at the theater, four of which I took part in.
10:30: The concert ends, and the weary travelers betake themselves home.
11:00: I plop down at the computer intending to catch up on blogging, but...fail.
Repeat this six times, and you have my week fairly accurately. On Saturday all the students performed, and immediately afterwards we played background music for a fundraiser BBQ. We stuck around to clean up, and then headed home. This morning (Sunday) Toni and I got up around 6:00, donned our black and white attire, and headed to a local church that had asked us to perform. Turns out they had two services, both of which we were expected to play for! But at last we finished, collected our pay (which was quite generous), and made it home.
Thus concludes my musical week. Like Einstein, I am thinking in music...but probably not in the positive manner he did. Please don't ask me to pick up a musical instrument until tomorrow, when, alas, I shall have to go have a lesson.
Oh! But I forgot to tell you about the Irish dancers I mentioned in my last post. There's really no explaining it--I want to show y'all a video, but I think I'm going to try to get their permission first. And the same goes for Josh's piece, if he can get it copyrighted and protected.
So...please hold your applause until the second movement.
Coming Soon: Beth wakes up long enough to post a long overdue tag and award!
