St. Patrick's Day Variety Show Penned on Mar. 16, 2008
We (me, Toni and Katy) were recently invited to perform some of our Irish pieces at a St. Patrick's day show in our local theater, and of course we accepted! Here are a few pictures of the event.
Introducing....
...Cadence! Well, that's the name we decided on for our "group," but we have yet to actually use it. We're always introduced as "the M. girls," which is very boring and un-professional, don't you think? (The picture is, uh, photoshopped... )
Okay, so here's a few normal pictures of us before the show:
The event turned out to be a blast! We were only playing three songs, and were the second group to perform. Here we are on stage:
The theater is very small, and it wasn't even all the way full, so it was a very casual performance--which I liked. This is me playing my ugly white guitar:
And there you have it. It was so much fun to listen to the other groups after us! I am now fully set upon purchasing an Irish flute... *ponders how she can possibly pay off her $850 viola and buy a $160 flute at the same time*

Can I have your autograph, please? Penned on Dec. 20, 2007
Today was one of those "musical days" my sister posted about recently. It began with the forging of the great rings...excuse me: the gathering of our string quartet! We were scheduled to play at the local yacht club, and afterwards our teacher's children's school. The day's troubles began when we discovered that our plans did not all match up--while me, Toni, and our friend Lydia waited at our music school, our teacher was headed straight to the yacht club. Thankfully we managed to round up the four of us, and made it to the club in time to unpack our instruments and discover that, to our greatest chagrin, Lydia's cello had cracked at the neck! It was a tragic casualty indeed, and the fine instrument deserves a fitting epitaph:
Here lies Anthony,
A beautiful instrument of wood and ebony,
Who in life abode in a case that resembled a coffin,
And who now rests in the latter.
As if this sad event was not bad enough, we were then informed that instead of playing dinner music, as we had imagined, we were actually the presentation! This placed us in a morbid position, given the fact that we were down a cello...however we resurrected the event by playing a few Christmas carols with just the two violins and viola. And all the rich millionaires loved it anyway.
After this we stopped back by the music school to pick up our teacher's cello so Lydia could join in when we played at the school. First we trooped out to the playground, gathered all the first graders around us, and gave them quite the little concert while excited little volunteers held the music to keep it from blowing off the stands. It was unbelievable how much they enjoyed it--afterwards they flocked around the four or us, and, wonder of wonders, asked:
"Can I have your autograph??"
It was the cutest thing in the world. The brought out pens and papers, and yes, I gave a little boy my autograph. He was thrilled and immediately dashed off to show his friends.
My sister says that in our little town, we're famous. I guess she's right.

Orchestra Pictures Penned on Dec. 3, 2007
I'm sorry I don't have any better pictures, but here are a few of what we have from the concert Saturday night.

This is the first song of the concert, "I Saw Three Ships," performed by (L-R) my sister Toni on first violin, my absolutely awesomely wonderful teacher Mrs. Fletcher on second violin, and myself on viola. My friend Lydia on the cello got cut out, unfortunately.

This picture was taken from about the middle of the room we performed in--it was enormous, and a huge crowd showed up. We had to get out more chairs, and even then it was packed! The orchestra on stage is our full orchestra; we have smaller groups as well that play more difficult pieces.

Ah, our full quartet! Please disregard the rather annoying bow across my face...

All of us girls after the concert: (L-R) Hannah, Emily (holding baby Jesiah...awwww), Toni, me, Josie, and Kathryn Grace.
And last of all, an apology concerning my template . I really did not mean to switch it yet; however I was attempting to put something in Toni's sidebar and had both her account and mine logged in at the same time...and somehow or other the server got confused and put her template on my blog! Don't ask me how it happened, but anyway, that's why I was forced to go ahead and put this one up. I'll be making changes gradually, I hope.

P.S. A small sneak-peek of what is to come: I believe I will post a chapter or two of my story up here for y'all to read, so don't leave yet! Expect that in the next day or two...I can just feel your intense impatience.... |

Fort McKavett and Cancer Benefit Penned on Mar. 24, 2007
Time for an update!!
The reenactment at Fort McKavett was on Friday. Me, my mom, Katy, and Hannah got in the car at 5:30 am and made it there in time for the flag raising ceremony, and the rest of the day was full of school (sort of--one of the kids coming through caught me drawing on my slate and said, "I thought you were doing REAL school!"), johnny cakes, butter, gingerbread....all that. Basically the kids run the schoolhouse and the moms bake. Quote of the day goes to Christy: "I'm not wierd. You're just not normal." It was a fun day--my third reenactment now. I wish I could figure out how to post pictures so ya'll could see some of them, but sadly enough I can't get the thing to work.
And....the big concert for the cancer benefit (yes, the one we've been worrying about forever!) just got through about an hour ago. Phew!!! By the time we were on stage doing our stuff, I was actually having fun . And it was great to be the only group to get a standing ovation! Toni did lose her voice when she was introducing a song...and I did mess up more than once on the chords....but it was fun. Oh, did I mention that I am quitting guitar after this performance?? I hate playing back-up!! Afterwards the first person to come up to me said, "Oh, I loved listening to your sisters!" The guitar player gets zero appreciation...but I guess I'm stuck with it.
P. S. If all went as hoped for, Annie is two weeks pregnant today |
