Pictures Penned on Jan. 18, 2009
Auditions went well this afternoon, as did check-in for the debate portion of MASTERS. You may wonder how anything could possibly go wrong with check-in, in which case you probably didn't see me during the same event a few nights ago. Enough said.
A few photos from the day:
Toni and Brian are very studious debaters...unlike some of us.

At CFC, we played IPIA (Idealism and Pragmatism in India and America). If we look like we're running around in mass confusion...we are. Please don't ask what it is. I can't tell you anything, aside from the fact that it probably annoys me more than any other activity on the planet. Maybe I'm just not impressed by huge gyms filled with yelling teenagers.

Jonathan and Joshua, striking a pose.

Jonathon showed off his airsoft guns. Kathryn Grace and I proceeded to give them all names--such fun.
Hope and Lydia. They're awesome.

Growing? Penned on Jan. 15, 2009
Day 2 is complete! Today we had our final classes for the speech portion, and tomorrow we'll be competing in a one-day tournament. My classes today were actually enjoyable (*collective gasp*), since they dealt with photography and were quite informative. It was also great to be going to the same classes as my friend Lydia--I have this immature fear of going places alone, even if it's in one facility. Call me weird. I am pretty weird.
As for the tournament tomorrow...that will be a stretch. Thus far, I've felt good about the whole thing, probably because I haven't had to stretch myself too far past my comfort zone. Tomorrow will be a whole new level of growing, since competition has always terrified me. Like, seriously terrified.

Our Hill Country Campout Penned on Dec. 9, 2008
It's high time I posted about our campout, back in the beginning of November (yes, I'll blame my lack of posting on NaNo). Paul and Josh pulled the event together very nicely. A few pictures to commemorate the occasion:
Breakfast Monday morning was served by the guys. Pancakes...
...and bacon!
Apparently there was something interesting happening at the grill?
Christina and I had a lovely time balancing water bottles on our heads. What? You don't think that's an interesting pastime?
My dad brought a potato gun, and it became a wonderful source of entertainment.
Goofing off...
We took one of Toni's favorite jumping pictures. Yeah, it's rather along the lines of High School Musical... *shudder*
Josh showed off his scary teeth.
We went on a four-mile hike, which was quite beautiful.
In the course of the hike, we slid down a cliff, small children and all. This picture really doesn't do the steepness justice.
Paul, directing traffic.
The river was absolutely gorgeous...although a bit cold to wade through.
Fall colors! I could have sat here with a notebook for hours, very happily.
Three of us girls by the river. We look so happy, huh?
(Four miles later.)
And, at this point in our adventures, my camera died. Horror of horrors. The rest of the campout remains undocumented, but rest assured that we spent the remainder of our time roasting marshmallows and playing frisbee and capture the flag and, in general, enjoying ourselves. I for one would be happy to make it an annual tradition!

Everything's big in Texas! Penned on Aug. 23, 2008
That's what all the Texans say, anyway. Here's a specimen from our front yard that may just prove it--The Beast is a good six inches:
Want to catch one of your very own? All you need is...a tennis racket and an ice cream bucket! |

Summer Music Camp: Part the First Penned on Jul. 11, 2008
I have a strange feeling of dejavu...once more I write from Tennessee, with a lovely view of trees and hills out my window. I assure you that making insanely long car trips east isn't our usual habit.
We have just finished the first day of music camp--the younger ones have, anyway. Here are some photos to recap the events of the last two days:
The trip up. In this picture I am desperately trying to isolate myself from the ruckus of traveling with eight people, 1. by sitting sideways on the bench seat, and 2. by blaring Enya through the headphones. It actually worked--I got in two hours of writing, ending with two pages worth of story!
Oh, and this is George, a gift from my dad. You may know him by his initials--GPS. George is just wonderful.
Friday morning--the first day of camp! Hannah, Michael, and Patti pose with their respective instruments...while Josh dodges the camera to the right.
Alex Wolaver of the Annie Moses Band demonstrates a correct bow hold to an entranced Michael.
Patti, dutifully holding her bow.
The day is done! Here's Patti and I outside the church.
We're staying in host housing, which is incredible considering the fact that there's eight of us. We have the upper story all to ourselves--three bedrooms and two bathrooms, almost like having our own house! Not to mention the pool...
Josh takes a flying leap off the diving board, getting his head caught in the frame of the photo while he does so. See that look of horror on Katy's face?
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...Michael jumping in after a torpedo!
A panoramic view of the backyard. Absolutely stunning scenery!
We stopped at a park for lunch, and I ordered Toni to do a photo shoot so I could have some decent pictures of myself. This one's my favorite, I think.
Thus concludes Part the First!
