Dec. 8, 2007 - Chapter 1: Trouble Again
Last time we saw the Five Guardians, they were fighting the horrible Satasan and ended up saving all of their world, Ileiona. When they defeated Satasan, they had gained a golden stone that changed silver when there was a full moon. The five of them didn't know what it was, but they had a feeling they would soon find out.
The Golden Stone, as it was known to be called, was presently in the care of the queen of the Guardians, Alainia, and her beloved dragon, Snow Fire. At the moment, Alainia was sitting in the throne in the castle upon the clouds. She didn't expect being a queen would be this boring. She had always thought that she would be like her mother and fight in battles, but there hadn't been any battles since the Five had defeated Satasan three months ago. The others in the Five were actually allowed to go out and have fun, while she had to stay behind in the castle and rule. The thing was, Alainia didn't want to rule anymore. And what was worse is that she had to get married by her birthday in order for the line of the Montez's to continue, ande her birthday was in four months!
Since Jason was killed, she didn't really know who to choose. She supposed she could marry Peir, but the Council had said that she needed to marry someone of royal blood. Like she was going to find anyone like that now-a-days. Alainia was probably the only royal left in Ilieona. Just then, she heard a door slam. Alainia turned her head and saw Snow Fire stomping in. Snow Fire was no longer the little dragon that had hatched out of the red and white egg six months ago. The dragon was now at least fifty feet long and twenty feet high, and her wing span was over a hundred feet.
"Alainia," said Snow Fire walking towards her. "What's wrong?"
"Oh," Alainia sighed. "It's nothing. I just miss being able to go outside."
"Yeah?" Snow Fire plopped down next to Alainia and shook the whole floor. "I could take you for a fly outside real quick."
"No," she waved her hand at the dragon. "I don't want to get in trouble again." They looked at each other and started to laugh. Alainia always got into trouble. And did she care? No. She stood up and shaked out her dress. Being the queen she had to always wear a nice dress. "Okay, let's go. But first, let me get into some more comfortable clothes." And she ran out of the throne room and into her quarters next door. She walked in and stopped. Her quarters was such a mess. Of course, she shared it with Miecyzslaw and more than half of it was hers. Alainia rolled her eyes, picked up her skirts, and hopped around like she used to do in her bedroom back in Jeffern.
When she reached her dresser, Alainia pulled it out and opened the secret drawer in the back of it where she kept all her sweat shirts and jeans. The Council had said she had to be more formal and was no longer allowed to wear "rags" like that. Taking off her dress and getting dressed in more comfortable clothing, she almost forgot to take off the diamond tiara on her head. Taking it off and looking at it, she was deep into thought once again. What would happen if she didn't get married by the time she turned fourteen? Would the line of Mortez's end all because of her? Or would Codie become king? She had a feeling she was soon going to find out.
"Alainia!" called Snow Fire from the room next door. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah," she called back after pulling on her sweat shirt and sneakers. "Be there in a sec." She ran out of the room and back into the throne room. "Let's go," and she climbed onto Snow Fire's back carrying the Golden Stone with her. Snow Fire went over to a corner in the throne room where there was a lever. She pulled on it with her claw and there was a rumbling. Alainia looked up and saw that the ceiling was opening up.
"Hang on tight," said Snow Fire. Alainia hadn't flown since the great battle, so she was excited. Crouching down low and spreading out her wings, Snow Fire prepared to take off. With a big pump of her wings, she lifted up into the air. The room filled with a rush of wind and Snow Fire was out of the throne room. They sped through the sky like they were a bird flying for the first time, but this bird was huge and had scales instead of feathers. They burst out of the cloud that surrounded the Guardian Castle. The sun was beating down on her face and she looked over the side of Snow Fire and saw that the castle had moved over the ocean.
"Come on, Snow Fire," called Alainia over the rush of the wind. "Let's go to Jeffern and see what happened to the house." Snow Fire let out a roar. "What? What's wrong?" But Alainia saw it as soon as she had asked it, she saw what was dropping and dropping fast. "The Stone!" She had dropped the Golden Stone right over the ocean and it was falling fast.
"No!" cried Snow Fire. She dove down at top speed and Alainia felt as though she was going to throw up. She had never gone this fast before. "Alainia you need to get that stone!" Alainia had an idea, but she was scared to do it. Taking a deep breath, she got ready. She'd done worst stuff than this.
"Way ahead of you," and she jumped off the dragon's back. Straightening her body out to where it looked like she was diving through water, Alainia sped up and went after the stone.
"Are you nuts?!" cried out Snow Fire. Alainia's eyes started to water as she plumited towards the water. Remembering her fire powers, she made her hands into fists and made them heat up. There was a blast and Alainia rocketed forward with a stream of smoke behind her. "What in the world?" she heard Snow Fire call. Alainia was catching up to the stone now, and the water.
Come on, she thought angrily. Almost there. She finally got close enough to the stone and reached out with her hands. She was just barely touching it with the tips of her fingers. Then, hoping that her shoes wouldn't burn up, she blasted fire out of her feet and she hurtled towards the stone, but then there was a gust of wind and she soared away from the stone. The thing was, she wasn't thinking about what she was doing and she realized that she had just shot herself into the ocean where there were sharks, squids, and who knows what else. Alainia tucked into a ball and got ready to be plummeted into darkness.
"Alainia!" Snow Fire called as Alainia hit the water. She had landed on her back and the sting was growing at an unbearable rate. Snow Fire dove down and folded her wings. A few seconds later, Snow Fire was flying out of the water with Alainia on her back.
"Get to the c-castle, Sn-snow Fire," said Alainia through chatering teeth.
"Um...I would, but...um..." Snow Fire hovered a few feet above the water and looked around the sky. "I'm not sure where it is."
"Wh-what?" Alainia sat up and looked around. "Wh-what do you m-mean you're not sure wh-where it is?"
"I mean I lost track of it when I was getting you out of the water," said Snow Fire irratibly.
"Th-then head for the c-closest piece of land there is," said Alainia. Snow Fire took off and quickly flew towards the sun that was now setting.
An hour later, they arrived at a beach. It was dark out and the moon shone brightly. Alainia was extremely cold and Snow Fire was tired from trying to get to land from the middle of the ocean. Sliding off the dragon's back, Alainia felt sand between her toes. So much for not burning my shoes, she thought. Looking around the beach, she realized where they were.
"Snow Fire," Alainia whispered. "Are you okay?" Snow Fire let out a deep breath.
"First of all," said the dragon. "Are you okay?" Alainia nodded her head. "Good. And yes, I'm fine."
"Do you know where we are, Snow Fire?" she asked. Snow Fire shook her head. "We're in Jeffern and I didn't get the Stone. I can't believe I lost it!" Alainia started to cry.
"Hey," said Snow Fire slowly slithering over to her. "It's all right. I would not have been able to do that if I was hum-" she cut off for they heard a rustling in the bushes.
"Who's there?!" called out Alainia.
To be continued...
