This is so funny and cute, it reminds me of my ten hilarious kitties.

See you!

PS: This is to make up for my very short post before. I'll have something more interesting in a few days- we're going to the Royal Ontario Museum tomorrow! YAY!
And that, my friends, is why you never get UndoTheHorsePen to write a short story (emphasize SHORT) about horses! Because it'll turn out longer then you'll ever imagine...I'm not even kidding. And I haven't even started yet! And yet the cogs are turning WAY TOO FAST.
Emma
PS: HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY FRIENDS DOWN IN THE USA, HAVE AN AWESOME DAY!
Well, today I finally had my riding lesson! Whoo-hoo! I missed last week's cause I was sick but I'm all better now except for this nagging cough. It was pretty chilly today and drizzling, and I ended up shutting my door on my riding crop at the library so now it's broken in half :P. Well, it cracked I guess and when I tucked it under my saddle it just broke even more.
I rode Roxy again. I'm falling in love with her now- she's such a great little horse. Tempermental to say the least, but she's an excellent ride and she likes me now, though she still does this weird thing where she tries to bite the cross tie when I tighten the girth- girthy, mare-ish mare. But she's a big sweetie. She did, however, try to take a chunk out of Tucker AND Stormy today.
Because I missed last week, I wasn't on the board again, so I ended up having to take Roxy from Jane and she had to ride Borat. Roxy was all wet because it was raining, and I was going to borrow a sweat scraper from Buddy (another horse)'s grooming kit but I didn't have time. (She was dry after the lesson, though, and really, really dusty.)
We worked on cantering again. My instructor says we're going to be doing jumping next week- YAAAAAAY! I can't wait. But I'll be missing it....so that sucks. However, the idea makes me happy.
Okay, just a quickie to let you all know that I'm not dead, I'm just on hold. I've been sick, and now I may in fact be getting sicker, nothing exciting has happened, and well, when nothing exciting happens, what do you blog about? Well, I suppose you could blog about your past, or about food or horses or anything you want, really, but I'm not exactly that sort of person. So anyway I'll write this extremely short and slightly annoying post, and then I'll call it a day.
Also you might have noticed I changed my profile picture to a brindled horse.
Okay, I think I might have promised this a while ago so now that our computer is finally working I'm going to post it! This is a true thing that happened to be last March (I think it says when in the piece) and let me know if it's funny or not! Here it is!

The Flying Leap
Perhaps the most embarrassing moment I have ever experienced during my relatively short horseback riding career occurred when I was newly thirteen years old, just before my first show. Utterly excited about the glittering proposition of my new start in a horse showing career, I was, however, extremely effervescent, so enthusiastic about riding that I must admit that I sometimes did not take into account the extreme lack of control I had when riding a two thousand pound animal.
It was three weeks before said first horse show. I was so enormously excited, as mentioned, that whenever my instructor called me to action, I was practically helium-filled, bouncing around like a wayward beach-ball on horseback. Whether my beach-ball feeling being brought to an abrupt halt (that felt similar to be dropped off a cliff) was a good thing or not, you, as the reader, can decide for yourself.
The beach ball on horseback feeling never really diminishes.
I had somehow managed to secure myself one of the best school horses in the stable as my appointed steed for the walk/trot division of the first stable school show of the season. (This had been accomplished by a lot of standing in line, wheedling, compromises and point blank pleading by both me and my mother on the appointed registration date several weeks before.) This horse was Bentley, a buckskin gelding with a knack and yearning for jumping. I also liked to think I had a knack for jumping, but at that particular time there was one thing I didn’t have a knack, like or affinity for: cantering.
Unfortunately, my beach ball attitude made me blissfully unaware of the fact that my instructor had asked me to canter the full length of the arena. These words were the words of terror, a fearful predicament to be forced upon me at will. They snuck inside my conscience and set up camp, enemies behind the lines.
After confirming that my instructor had asked me to do the run of horror, I steered Bentley to the wall and prepared for take-off: sponge the reins, kiss and kick. Bentley shot forward in the appointed direction, clockwise, and instead of sitting up I bounced back and forth like a drunken parakeet perching on tree branch.
We rounded the corner. I hung on for dear life, trying unsuccessfully to gather my flapping reins. I jolted furiously in the saddle, becoming acutely aware of a cramped and uncomfortable sensation in the general area of that sorely abused appendage that was on constant beating with the hard saddle.
We cut a second corner. I had no control over Bentley and I was wondering if he was trying to make a desperate break for freedom. My instructor was shouting instructions to me, but I was very much preoccupied with my deplorably abused behind and the fact that Bentley had gone in one direction and I had nearly gone off in the other. I grabbed his mane, yanking myself upright, but Bentley took my self-saving action as a signal to swerve towards the center of the arena.
A course of three foot jumps was set up. I had never gone over a three foot jump in my life. Bentley, however, decided that this was an opportune moment to show everyone just how well he could jump.
He cocked his head and ears forward, picked up his stride and headed straight for one of the three foot jumps. I fell forward onto his neck and lost the reins, managing to scramble into messy two-point as Bentley lifted his front legs in a delicate arc over the pole. He kicked off with his hind legs, and we lifted into the air.
Bentley hit the ground lightly and cantered away upon landing, completely oblivious to my shell-shock as I bounced around, my face near his shoulder and level with his withers. I made a desperate and successful grab for the reins, yanked Bentley unceremoniously to a grudging halt and pushed myself up right into the saddle.
Then I looked at the faces of my thoroughly captivated audience. Everyone, including the horses, were staring at me with a mixture of awe and disbelief. My mother looked positively horrified. Everything was completely silent for exactly five seconds. Then my instructor said that that had been good, but I shouldn’t let Bentley veer into the center.
In retrospect, the whole incident was quite amusing. I suppose the whole gravity-defying experience helped shape how I am now as a rider- a bit of a speed demon. As you can see, the effervescence that comes with riding a two thousand pound example of fire and spirit and equine never really goes away.

I have GREAT NEWS!!!!! I will be blogging more now because....
OUR COMPUTER IS BACK!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!
My mom took it in yesterday and the computer guy fixed it and NOW WE HAVE OUR COMPUTER BACK!!!! Unfortunately, I also came down with the flu, so now I am bedridden....but now I have the computer back and life is good....lol. However my eyeballs are killing me and yesterday I had a fever, so it's not THAT good....but still.
Honestly, that's about it. I just wanted to write a quick note to let you all know that I'll be blogging more.
Well, yesterday we went to my uncle's girlfriend's birthday party. Of course the 'illck' in the title is because I got VERY sick right in the middle. And I was sick, all night, waking up at 1 am and not getting back to sleep until 3:45 or there abouts. But anyway, it was fun. My uncle's girlfriend is VERY silly, so that made it fun. I'm REALLY not a social person, but it was okay.
Anyway, other then that NOTHING EXCITING has been going on. We went to the Royal Winter Fair on Saturday AGAIN and it was very horsey (did I write about this already?). Our Internet at home is still not working, but I've been getting lots done in my writing- I finished one of my historical novels the other day- whoo-hoo! Now I am starting on another one, this one about the Rebellion of 1837 (this is strictly Canadian).
William Lyon Mackenzie is terribly misunderstood.
PLEASE look at my new blog! Itès a little scary, this I know, but please put your thoughts on there, if you want. I haven't been blogginy much lately, mostly because I've lost the will to blog (scuse the pun) because our Internet isn't working, our en cats are acting psychotic (one of the little ones, Sunny, nearly impaled me today- I have scratches all over my feet and hands :P) and, well, when you only get an hour a day at the library it's a little hard to keep up the whole blogging thing.
Don't forget to do the Horse Contest below.
Um, that's about it, really. My mom just got her clean bill of health! YAAAAAAY! No more medical for another FIVE YEARS! I'll be in college by then....WOW.
That's all for today, hope all you bloggers out there are good!
Well, nothing new. I have to write something because I haven't in a while. I am becoming a delinquint blogger...it's terrible!
I had my riding lesson a couple of days ago. It went well- I am getting WAY better at cantering now. I rode Roxy...she was being VERY mare-ish that night. It's started getting dark partway through my riding lesson now, it's kind of scary.
Well.....that's about it. We're going to the Royal Winter Fair again on Saturday- yay! It'll be the last time this year though, and I'll have to wait a whole entire year before I can go again :(. But it'll go by fast, I'm sure.
I have decided I am having a contest. I am going to post a photograph of a horse, and you have to comment and tell me who it is. I'll give you some hints:
- he was a famous show jumper
- he liked to eat bran muffins
- he liked to throw things, especially his groom's shoes, with his mouth
- he had colic twice- didn't die
- he got in a serious trailering accident- didn't die
- he was ridden by the famous Canadian show jumper, rightly dubbed Captain Canada
WHO WAS HE? Here is the pic:
Here you go. If you don't know who he is, just google Captain Canada, horseback rider. You'll have your answer. For bonus points....tell me the name is the rider and his daughter!
Me, Horses and an Evil Mad Scientist Computer from Mars Plotting to Drive me Insane!!!!
Well, it's me again....our computer still WILL NOT work. I am at the library AGAIN at 11 o'clock in the morning trying to squeeze in a few minutes. I cannot find ANYONE to talk to ANYWHERE....very sad....
Well, anyway, yesterday we went to the RWF again! (see my post below) It was very, very cool...of course. There was a FREE HORSE SHOW that evening, so we were planning on staying the day before we left so we could see it. I got a T-shirt made there, it is white with three different horses on it :one doing a flying chance in dressage, one doing a log jump in cross country and one going over a huge red-and-white double oxer in show jumping. I absolutely love it... :D
We looked around at some of the booths and stuff, and we ate this really delicious soup from the chef's stage (it was lentil soup with bacon or something, mushroom and whole lentils- deeelicious!). We watched some more of the demonstrations. They had a reiner there- very cool.
Well, that's about it. Please feel free to comment on my new blog.
Hello blogging buddies! Just a quick note to let everyone know that I have started another blog. It is called Extraorinarily Strange. Here's the link: www.homeschoolblogger.com/extrastrange. It's my rant blog so that I don't have all that stuff cluttering up this blog....it can get scary ;). Please comment, let me know what you think about it, if you agree with me, or even if you don't. But please, if you are scared by it, then LET ME KNOW and I will delete it....I can get VERY hyper-mad when I see stuff I don't like.
As many of you might have noticed, I have a something new on my sidebar: a Bunnyhero pet named Black Beauty! Thank you, sgsikes97! He is very cute :D
Today is VERY cold...no snow, but we had to wait outside for an hour and a half so that we could get into this free clothing thing....I nearly froze my fingers off because I forgot gloves. Later today we'll be going to a Christmas Craft show thingie at GM Place, so I'll post about that later....
That's about it for now....this blog is starting to get boring....
Emma
Well howdy everyone! Today was a VERY good day for me- we went to the Royal Winter Fair!!!!
Just a brief history lesson (skip this if you want, but it's interesting). The dream for the Fair (hereafter known as RWF) started in 1910. Every province (this is Canadian) had their own fair but none had an agriculeral theme. So, farmers and politcians began to create their own idea of a national agriculteral fair, which started in 1922 (a year late, for it had to be post-poned due to a heating system that couldn't be installed on time) on November 22nd. It has now been running for 86 years in Exhibition Place. For those of you who are wondering? The word Royal in the name is there because it was opened by King Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria. Ever since, it has been known as the Royal Agriculteral Winter Fair.
Anyway, today was VERY VERY special because a VERY VERY special guest was coming to open the fair. It was.....
PRINCE CHARLES!
and....
LADY CAMILLA!
Yup, you heard it right- the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, future monarchs of England (and Canada) opened the RWF. AND I SAW THEM!!!!!!! We ran into my cousins and aunt there, so we sat with them. My cousin and I are both totally horse-crazy, so we were very excited because the RWF is extremely horsey place. The Canadian Cowgirls did a special performance before hand and then some English riders from around Canada came and then Their Royal Highnesses (etiquette) came riding in in this AMAZING horse-drawn carriage! And the best part is..... *voices drops to a pitch only whales can hear* IT WAS ALL FREE.
As was admission to the fair!
We spent the day with my cousins and stuff. We got to see Ian Millar (see my post Canadian Show Jumping Tournament for more info) and his two children, along with Ainsley Vince (don't ask) excercising their horses- too cool! We also got to see all the animals, stroll through the booths, watch the PC Superdogs show and of course see LOTS AND LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL HORSES!!!! My favourite part, personally, was when my two cousins and I got chosen to be part of the Canadian Cowgirls demo! There were seven other kids there and we showed the audience the way the Cowgirls do their performances. It was very cool. At the Greenhawk booth I got a new pair of winter gloves and a much-needed riding crop, which I will probably lose just like I've lost my other two :P.
Yeeeee-haaaaaw!
Emma
PS: We are going one more time with the tickets we acually BOUGHT so I'll put more details about the actual fair then.
There is no drama, nor is there a desert but I just wanted to put that because it's catchy :D. It SNOWED today and it almost stuck, but it didn't. I guess once we pass November 1st, we get SNOW SNOW SNOW!!!!!
Anyway, tomorrow we are going to the Royal Winter Fair- aka, one of the best places in the world! What's ultra-amazing is that Prince Charles and Lady Camilla are going to be opening it!!!!!!!!!!!! They're also going to be letting everyone see a free horse show, for which tickets are usually $25! I am SO excited!!!! Can you tell? :D
Today was my riding lesson! I was thinking I was going to ride Roxy again, but I got the stable and I discovered that I was riding Stormy! :O He is the same horse I rode at my old stable, CES, and it wasn't very good. My instructor (back then) was AWFUL and once Stormy fell down while I was cantering him. It wasn't good and I was VERY nervous about riding him again for the first time in almost a year.
But everything went great! One of the trainer horses, Kismet, was being ridden during the lesson. He's a Rocky Mountain Horse so he's very handsome and he has weird gaits. But he's got an AMAZING jump in him. Another horse, Tucker, was also being ridden.
Stormy, poor baby, is really old and bony. His trot was VERY rough and I couldn't canter very well because his canter is so bumpy. But I managed to go around the arena three times without stopping :D. It was great to ride him again, because I love him so much. He's a such a big sweetie and he's my special boy.
Anway, that's about it. Nothing exciting happening...our computer still isn't working! Grr....I am honestly convinced it's an evil alien scientist who's sole purpose is to drive me insane!
Well, we had Halloween. It was good. I dressed up as a trampled horseback rider. I saftey-pinned some paper horse shoes on the back of my blazer and used yarn to put a real horse shoe on my helmet (it came lose half-way through the night and was sliding back and forth so it drove me bonkers). I also had a fourth place Halloween ribbon from one of our mini-shows at the stable so I pinned that on and I really looked good.
Got plenty of candy....mmm....nearly ate it all the next day. I still haven't tapped into the two boxes of fruit roll-ups my nana gave me when we 'trick-or-treated' at her house...lol.
Anyway, nothing much is happening (still). Computer is still acting possessed, no Internet for almost a week now, riding lesson tomorrow (yay!- can't wait for more no-stirrup riding), that's about it. I'm reading a very interesting book called The Carbon Diaries, about a girl living in London in the year 2015 and Britain has been chosen as a 'guinea pig country' for carbon rationing. So far it's very exciting. I'm almost done it.
We also went to the Legeslative Assembly today. Very cool....it was in the Provincial Parliament Buildings. We got to watch part of the question period. The subject on the table was H1N1 vaccine. Apparently 2.1 million vaccines were sent out around Ontario and the people most at risk (pregnent women, children under five, et cetra) were left standing in the rain waiting for the vaccine and then never actually got it.... It was very exciting because everyone was yelling and debating all the time. I think I would be a very good politcian. I yell and debate a lot too. Our premier, who also attened the meeting, freaked me out because he came in late and at first I didn't recognize him...I nearly fell off the balcony when I realized who it was. I don't actually like McGuinty (our premier) and I envisioned giving a good swift carbon foot print right in the pants....excuse that.
Anyway, that's all for now. Talk to you all later!
Emma
PS: For those of you wondering, I'm not getting the H1N1 vaccine.
Anyway, aside from my tag, not much is going on. Today is Halloween! I am dressing up as a trampled horseback rider (Mom's idea). I'll post pictures as SOON as possible. Hopefully we'll get our computer working SOON and then I'll be able to post more often.
Bye for now,
Emma
Quote of the day:
Double, double, toil and trouble,
fire burn and caldron bubble!
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
wool of bat and tongue of dog!
Lemme know if you can guess where this is from! No more contests, sorry....not after the last one :P.
Yeah, so today it's rainy, cold, windy, but milder then it has been all week. My mom is having a lot of tests in the city this week AND our computer is actually a mad scientist who's sole purpose is to drive me batty...so the stress is starting to get to me. Heck, never mind the computer, I'm starting to go batty.
Not much else has been going on. I am sort of in withdrawl from Internet since our computer hasn't been working. I can't sleep at night because of nightmares and the fact that my mom has to sleep with her door close so she doesn't give radiation poisoning to our cats. Luckily, I can actually touch her now (she is sitting six inches away from me for the first time in two days- YAY!) but she can't go off her special no-iodine diet until MONDAY. Yuck.
Well, that's about it....so I guess it's bye for now. PLEASE start commenting again! I miss everyone :(.
Bye!
Emma
PS: If you're wondering about my title, don't. It's just a joke because I feel like I'm running on a machine because I'm barely getting any sleep....sorry for all this depressing stuff! Toodles!
Two of my favourite authors, JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis, were part of a group of published and aspiring writers called INKLINGS. They met at a local pub just before it got chaotic and full of people and read their current works to their fellow writers. It was in this group that JRR Tolkien was persuaded to writer a sequel to his masterpiece 'The Hobbit', which resulted in my favourite books of all time, Lord of the Rings, and CS Lewis was converted back to Christianity and started writing the Chronicles of Narnia. If I had lived back then and was the right age and lived there, I would have loved to be part of the Inklings. But since I'm thirteen, not a professor at Oxford and living now, here, in this time we called the 2000s, I'll be content with this blog. The Write Words are what every writer searches for. They're what I search for when I write a blog post, a essay on dolphins or just one of my horse stories. They're what I look for in a good book. They're what I watch for in movies and on TV. I might not be a hobbit or a faun, or even just a published writer yet. And maybe this description isn't exactly of what my blog is about. Maybe it's more about my aspirations. But I am me. Emma. Thirteen and a writer in her own life and way. But in my heart and in my head, I'll always be an Inkling.
Enjoy! :D
