Here is the first part of my new story, "The Dragon Prince" :
Back and fourth she walked.Up and down the hall she paced. Looking to and fro as she went, and being silent as she nervously waited for what was to be the most important news she would recieve in her life. Hearing a door open she suddenly stopped, but to her dismay only a maid came out of the golden colored double doors. The maid bowed, and went on her way. Felyn sighed loudly and began to pace once more. Finally she realized that worrying would not help her, and so she sat down on the stony ground.
"Oh,this is too much,"she looked at the doors , and sighed once more." How much time does it take for one to make such a small decision?"
The truth was that this was no small decision. Felyn of course did not know this. She was young, and sheltered. Being a Lady, she normally got her way, and had hardly any patience. She was not spoiled, but the world around her had always seemed to be revolving about her. Now her life was taking another turn. A turn we all must take one day. A turn that most of us do not want to take for it is a strange, dark, and almost scary place to go. This turn is called by many "Adulthood". Felyn would never admit she was afraid of growing up, but mabe her fear of entering adulthood was the reason for her unpatient way of acting that one lonely, rainy, and cold day so many years ago.
Looking up at the painting of the King that seemed to be staring crossly at her from across the hall, she shuddered. The face that was made up of paint had such a likness to the King that if one saw only the face in the darkenss of night, they would with no doubt believe it was him. Looking quickly away from the image, she leaned agaist the wall and closed her eyes. Sitting there in the quietness she began to recall all the things that had happened within just a few short days. Everything had begun to change so suddenly . Now her life's future was hanging by the decision that two men in the other room were making.
Opening her eyes, she reached slowly into her skirt pocket. Grasping what was in it, she pulled it out. Holding it in the palm of her hand she kept her hand closed, as if she could not bear anything to happen to it. After just holding the object for a few moments, she slowly and cautiously opened her hand. In it layed a ring with the brightest colored ruby one could ever imagine. Looking at it closely, she picked the beautiful object up with her other hand. Feeling it with her fingers, she sighed. Then, kissing the ring, she placed it safely back in her pocket. Not soon after, the golden doors opened once more. A servant came up to her with the message that her presence had been requested by the one's behind the doors. Standing up, she followed the servant with her head straight up and a look of complete calmness on her young face.
Entering the room, the servant reverently nodded his head toward Felyn and left. When the door closed loudly behind her ,she stood in place and waited for what was to come. The two men were standing at the head of a the long golden clored table that was set in the middle of the room. They both looked at Felyn, and motioned for her to come forward. She looked at them, and went steadily forward. Slowly she took every step, and with every step she took her courage was strengthened. Finally, she stood infront them, and looked from one to the other. Finally her eyes rested on the shorter one,
"Father" she said to the short man, with the black beard, straight nose, and stern face,"Have you come to a decision?"......to be continued
I pray you all have a great week in the Lord, and God bless you all,
Martha Finley
