Writer's Nook - Lesson 16 --

Lesson 16 --
Doris the cat purred happily and curled up in the sunny window. She shivered a little when she thought about how long she'd lived in the streets as a skinny, stray cat. But that was then. now she knew she would never again choose to wander about chasing mice like she used to. It would be fancy cat food for her from now on, served in a fancy glass dish. As old Mrs. Winn patted her soft coat, Doris stretched and hoped that life would always be this good!
Before: Just as the space creature opened its mouth to eat me, I woke up. It was only a dream.
A memory? the monster's yellow eyes
A feeling? pounding heart
A hope? to never see the creature again
A decision? never watch scary movies and eat sugar before bed again
Revised ending: Just as the space creature opened it's mouth to eat me, I woke up. Relief seeped through me as I tried to slow down my racing heart. The creature's yellow eyes flashed back into my mind and I shook my head to disperse the remembrance. It was gone, it had been a dream, I'd never see it again. Yes, there was no more need to worry, it was gone. I laid my head on my pillow and determined never to eat sugary food and watch creepy movies before bed again.

Mar. 20, 2008 - The Last lesson

I am so impressed with your writing skills. Each lesson you have approached with whole-heartedness, thoroughness, and excitement.
This last lesson is no exception. Your ending to the monster "story" and how you made "notes" and combined them into a delightfully readable ending is exceptional.
It was a real joy guiding you through these lessons, and I confess, you didn't need much guidance.
Would you like me to mail you your certificate? If so, e-mail me your address, the picture you would like me to put in the sidebar of "graduates," the name you would like me to use under said picture, and your answers to the following "survey" questions. If you prefer NOT to send me your mailing address, then I will attach your certificate to an e-mail and send it back for you to print out (I use card stock).
1) What was the main reason you decided to participate in the Writing Workshop?
2) Which lesson did you find to be the most helpful to the kind of writing you do, and why?
3) Which lesson was the most FUN and why?
4) Is there anything you learned from the writing workshop that you feel will "stick" with you the longest, and that you will really use when writing your stories? If so, what is it?
5) Where do you plan to go from here, writing-wise? (future plans for completing a story, etc. A title? A nutshell?) :-)
Congrats! If you get this to me before Saturday, I can get it together and out to you. Otherwise you will have to wait a whole week, until I get back from the conference next week.
