The Coming of Dolly Llama ~ A Chapter Of A Book I'm Writing --
Cuddles the duck looked up from the algae she had been munching. " Hey!" she quacked. "What's that thing?" Lemon looked up. "I don't now. Is it alive?"
Sprite glanced up and then went back to his grass. "It's a haystack." he stated matter-of-factly.
"No it's not. It just moved!" Cuddles stared hard at it.
"Look look! The haystack is moving!" Lemon called, running into the creek hurriedly. Jack looked up. "That's not a haystack, it has legs."
"Then what is it?" Sprite stuck his bill up in the air.
"I don't know." Jack shrugged. "Let's ask that cat." He swam to the other side of the creek and called to the cat to stop. "Wait a second! I have a question! What is that thing??" He pointed with his bill to the brown fluffy thing.
Star, for that was the cat's name, glanced in the direction that it pointed in and then looked back at Jack. "That is a llama. At least that's what Ivy says." Star rubbed up against Jack. Though it may seem strange, Guess and Star were great friends with the ducks.
"Thanks!" Jack nibbled at Star's back and then splashed back into the creek. "Cat says it's a llama." Jack scooped up some water with his bill and slurped it down.
"And what does cat know about it?" Sprite asked, he wasn't one to give into acknowledging that he was wrong.
Jack looked at him flatly. "Because that's what Ivy told him."
Sprite shut his bill. He knew that if Ivy, who was old donkey of the farm, said it then it was true. They all watched as the llama was led into the barn and let into the pasture.
Star meanwhile followed close behind the people. When they left he jumped up on the top of the gate and looked at the llama. She, Ivy, and the goats were getting to know each other and he listened in, hoping to get to know the new creature.
"What's that?" Almond Joy piped. "It looks like a haystack!" she giggled. The llama put her ears back.
Ivy glared at Almond Joy and then faced the llama. "My name's Ivy. What's yours?"
The llama looked at Ivy loftily and answered, "Dolly." Ivy nodded respectfully. "Welcome to the barn." she said and then she walked into the pasture to graze.
"Okay llama." Daisy started. "I'm Daisy and you may as well know from the start that I am the boss around here. Second only to Bandit himself. This is my daughter, Noel and she is to be respected as much as me." Noel gave Dolly a friendly smile. "This is Snickers," Daisy waved her horns at Snickers who 'humphed' and turned her back. "And this is Almond Joy." She nodded to Almond Joy who went on munching her hay.
Dolly stuck her nose into the air and walked out into the pasture.
The goats watched in astonishment. "How rude!" Almond Joy exclaimed. "Hey! Wait up there! I gave you no permission to leave!" Daisy galloped after Dolly furiously.
"What do you think about that?" Noel whispered. "How do you think Bandit and her will get along?"
Almond Joy hiccuped with laughter.
"Well, it looks like we'll found out soon, there's Bandit!" Snickers called. Bandit was the barn's guard dog, and he held the position with pride. He now marched in with his tail up. "Someone new is here." he frowned. "I wish the people would consult me before getting more animals. I am after all in charge out here." He trotted over to the opening in the fence that he went through and headed towards Dolly. "Looks like Daisy has gotten into an argument with the new comer already." He walked solemnly up to her and asked, "Okay, what seems to be the problem here?"
Daisy looked at him. "This... this... creature is ignoring me!"
"Alright." Bandit said. "You run along to the barn and I'll have a talk with her."
Daisy hesitated and then started to the barn. "Okay you," Bandit started. "What is your name?"
Dolly went on eating grass, not paying any attention to Bandit.
"Hey! Answer me!" Bandit nipped at her heels. Dolly kicked at him and then went on eating.
"Kick at me will you!" Bandit growled. He pranced back up to her and nipped again. Then Dolly did the last thing he expected, she chased him.
Bandit ran, and ran fast. "Hey! Hey ! Stop!" he called.
Dolly stopped after a moment and went back to eating.
Bandit didn't know what to do, he hadn't encountered something this stubborn since he met Ivy.
Dolly glared at the confused and panting Bandit and something came onto her face... a grin? "Well? My name's Dolly if you must know. What's yours?" Curiosity showed in her eyes.
Bandit looked at Dolly, surprised that she had finally spoken. He put his nose in the air and ignored her. Again, Dolly did the last thing Bandit expected her to do, she laughed. "You've got spunk dog you know that?" She raised her head from the grass and looked at him with a smile. Bandit finally huffed, "My name's Bandit, and I'm the boss around here." He glared at Dolly, clearly showing his dislike of her. Dolly shrugged. "I'll share my ownership with you I guess." With that she turned her back and began to eat again.
Bandit stared at her and then walked around to her front end. "I beg your pardon, but what did you say?!"
Dolly looked him in the eyes as she answered. "I said I'd share my ownership with you."
"You do not own this land!" Bandit growled. "I was here first and it is mine!" Dolly watched him placidly as he growled at her. "I know you were here first but the people got me to own and keep track of the goats. Don't you understand you dull dog?" She looked at him with obvious amusement. "They got me to help you out! Now you don't have to watch the goats as much so that you can keep track of the other stuff."
Bandit blinked, he hadn't thought of it that way. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all. He nodded. "Alright, I've decided to hand over the governing of the goats to you." He was somewhat relieved to know that he didn't have to deal those troublesome goats anymore.
Dolly nodded and went back to eating again while Bandit headed back to the barn.
"Alright," he announced as he entered the barn. "I have everything sorted out. The people have sent Dolly to keep track of and guard you goats." He nodded before leaving with a swish of his tail, down to the creek.
Daisy was infuriated. "Well I say, how dare that llama take over watching us. We don't need to be taken care of, we take care of ourselves."
Noel watched her mother as she snorted and protested and thought out loud about things they might be able to do to drive Dolly away.
Almond Joy just laid on the hay table not paying the least attention to Daisy and Snickers had fallen asleep completely. Almond Joy wasn't feeling to great to tell the truth, she was pregnant and she could feel that her time was coming soon. She half closed her eyes and munched her hay, oblivious to everything else.

Story for the Contest --
This is a story that I wrote for a contest, I had to write a story for the picture. I've moved it here from my other blog because it is supposed to be here, not over there. xD
"You can't catch me!" the meow of a young cat could be heard, breaking the stillness of the forest. A second later an orange kit crashed through some bushes. His chest, legs, and paws were all white, and a white streak started on his forehead before extending down to cover his nose and mouth. Panting, he glanced around the clearing quickly with his bright green eyes before zipping away again to jump into some brush. The forest fell silent again, and then gave way to the crunch of leaves as another kit leaped out of the bushes. This one looked like the first one, except instead of the orange, there was a very rich black. The young she-cat looked around cautiously. "Gingerkit!" she squealed. This was Coalkit, younger sister to Gingerkit. Her brother had coaxed her away from the nursery, and though she had thought it would be fun at first, she soon became bewildered and confused in the big forest. Gingerkit was much more confident here, but Coalkit felt horribly deserted without her mother. "Come on!" the always happy mew of Gingerkit met Coalkit's ears and again she started off, green eyes wide as she scanned the sky, remembering the stories of hawks and owls that her mother had told her. Finally she scampered quickly to the other side of the clearing and into the more comfortably sheltered forest. "Gingerkit!" she mewled again piteously. Nothing. "Gingerkit!!" she howled. Suddenly she felt something land on her back, and she turned to rake her claws over and jump on whatever it was, for though she didn't like to be alone she was a good fighter. "Ow! Stop!" Gingerkit's voice squeaked. Coalkit jumped and quickly got off of her brother, for so it was. An indignant Gingerkit sat up to wipe a paw over his face. "What was that for? I was just playing! You're as jumpy as a mouse in the warriors den!" Gingerkit shook his head. "I'm sorry Gingerkit! Are you alright?" Coalkit ran up to Gingerkit and started licking his face where she had clawed him. Gingerkit grinned when he heard his sister's worried voice but when she came over and started grooming him, well, that was a different matter! "Ew! Stop! I'm fine. You didn't even scratch me, just pulled some of the fur out. Hey! Look at that tree! I bet I can climb higher than you!" Gingerkit was on his paws in a flash and quickly climbing a tall tree. "Ooh! Gingerkit! Please, I don't think we should climb it! It's so big!" Gingerkit stopped long enough to glance over his shoulder and down at Coalkit. "Aw come on! What, are you to much of a coward?" "No!" Coalkit put her ears back and started up the tree. She hated to be outdone by her brother, and she wasn't about to let Gingerkit outdo her now. The two kits climbed higher and higher and soon Coalkit was getting pretty nervous. She started climbing slower and when she glanced down at the ground she froze. She was very high now. "Gingerkit! I wanna go home!" she wailed. Gingerkit started to growl at her, but then he caught sight of the ground, so far below him. His muscles clenched and he found that he couldn't move. "Gingerkit!" Coalkit was terrified, she could smell her brother's fear scent and that made her even more frightened. "Calm down." Gingerkit whispered, trying hard to be brave. "Think of the bright side, no foxes or badgers could get us now." Coalkit only whimpered in reply. "Now, we just need to get down." Gingerkit tried to let go of the tree with a paw but failed utterly, he was afraid that he might fall if he let go. "Look!" Coalkit mewed, flicking her tail at the ground. "Mom!" Gingerkit yowled. "Mom!" The cat that they were calling was an orange tabby named Sunpelt, large and strong, and at the sound of her kits' voices she looked up. "Gingerkit! Coalkit! What are you two doing up there?!" The worried mother began climbing the tree, her long legs covering the distance quicker than the kits' little legs had been able to. Once level with her kits she licked them furiously before grabbing hold of Coalkit's scruff. "I'll be back for you," she meowed through Coalkit. Slowly she made her way down to deposit Coalkit on the ground. Then she went back up and retrieved Gingerkit while Coalkit crouched shivering on the ground. "I'm never listening to Gingerkit again," she grumbled to herself. When Sunpelt had gotten to the ground again with Gingerkit she gave them both a thorough washing before nosing them to their paws and leading them back to camp. Both of the kits were quite sure that they weren't going to leave the camp again until they were apprentices and knew the ways of the forest.
