Our Desires Influence our Perceptions

Posted in Health

It would appear that we really do see the world around us the way we want to. In other words, if we want to believe that people like us, we are more likely to see strangers smiling at us instead of smirking at us. If we want to believe we are not that overweight, we will see a better vision of ourselves in the mirror, focusing on the good parts.

A study at Cornell of 412 people showed that these people who were motivated to get yummy fresh-squeezed orange juice saw the 'right' picture instead of the 'wrong' picture which would lead them to lumpy veggie smoothy (yuck).  As Spock would say...fascinating!

Like when you're pregnant or have a small baby, it seems like the whole world is pregnant or toting a little one! Now I have teens, why doesn't it seem like the whole world has teens?

I know I can never believe how FAT I look in pictures because I don't see myself that way in the mirror. I guess I see the person I want to be! YIKES It's like seeing those GIANT Sequioas. When you are there they look BIG, but when you get home and see your pictures you cannot believe how BIG they are. Your brain just can't handle the truth! LOL

The image we create in our minds is more powerful than any other outside force.

You have such a strong poing with that statement. I needed to hear it today.

Now...to work on SEEING my teenage boys the way I want them...obedient, soft spoken, eager to learn, friendly etc...

Rather than beating myself up and asking myself where I went wrong. I prefer the first vision to anything else.
