Often times when I am out and about with the children, I wonder what people will think....here it is 10 in the morning, and I have four children with me, 2 of which are school age. I wonder if people are judging me, thinking "SHouldn't those kids be in school?" I have often even sensed this is what they are thinking, and of course I've heard the half innocent, have snarky remark 'OH, no school today?'. I ask my children before we get out of the vehicle to be on their best behavior...I outline what is and isn't acceptable...I remind them of the consequences for misbehavior.
I think we must look like a circus show when we are in public sometimes. Here is a lady, carrying a newborn, with a toddler in the buggy, and two other boys in tow.....how often I get the 'You've got your hands full' comment.
But today, today was different. We went to town to pick up a few groceries, and I was pleased with the behavior of both my boys, but Coy's behavior humbled and pleased me most:
While we were in the check out line if he could let that lady behind me go in front of us. She had about the same # of items...and I hesitated, wanting to hurry and get home, then said, 'Yes, you tell her she can go ahead". She was floored when he said 'Ma'am, you can go in front of us". And my heart swelled with pride...here is the boy I am always telling to pay attention..to watch what others are doing..to hold the door open..to consider what others need, and HE asks if someone can go ahead of us. HE takes the time to show loving kindness! I am STILL on cloud nine over this!
