How does your family celebrate Halloween? Or better yet, how do we as Christians emphasize the importance of NOT celebrating Halloween to our children? I do apologize if this should offend some who participate in Halloween. Offending is not my intention here. Sharing the work of the Holy Spirit on me through God’s word, and an alternative to the traditional Halloween are.
Deuteronomy 18:9- 13 "When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God."
1 Thessalonians 5:22 “Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
All appearance - that can be a tough pill to swallow. Especially when you have little ones who can't see the evil in Halloween.
We have decided this year to start a new tradition - we allowed the children to decide where we would eat out, and tonight we are taking them out to eat. We are doing this to avoid the trick or treators who will knock on your doors even if all the lights are off in your house. We also hope to distract the children so the won't be thinking and complaining not being able to trick or treat.
God Bless,
