Africa...on hold...

Posted in Randomness

So, I took a few pictures of the music making process, but they didn't finish. We won't be picking up again until next week when they can finish the instruments. I will post pictures then (and maybe a video clip of them actually playing).

In the mean time, we cleaned 3 buckets of chittlins the other night. You shoulda heard 'em complaining about the smell...LOL, but they were champs. Everyone pitched in and we were done in no time.

West Africa

Posted in School Dayz

Last week started a study on West Africa.  The book is called Hands-on Culture of West Africa.  We have learned about the different African monies and converting monies between the countries of Africa.  The kids had to make their own money and purchase exports from their neighboring country.  Then, we talked about folktales. They read The Cow-Tail Switch and I read Bruh Rabbit and the Tar Baby. Then they wrote their own...they were funny.

Today we start learning about the importance of music and they get to make own working instruments. This should take us about 2 or 3 days. I will have pics for this part of everything.

I'm just missing my mom is all. She's not dead or anything. She just lives in Vegas. Maybe she will happen by here and see this.

Isn't she beautiful:

Pumpkin Carving

Posted in Good Times!!

While we don't celebrate halloween, the kids wanted to carve some pumpkins. It's their first ones. I was inpressed that my son wanted to do 2 carvings, so one of the pumpkins has 2 sides done. He carved the big face all by himself! I am so proud of him.

Corn Maze

Posted in School Dayz

We went to a corn maze last Tuesday. It was our very first one. The kids had a blast! The building that you see in the pictures is an exact replica of an old school house that was built on the banks of Deer Creek (here in Colorado) in 1874.

Lasik

Posted in Randomness

Well last Thursday I had Lasik on my eyes. I am so glad to have had it done. It was a painless process. I was going to post the video but my dh didn't do a very good job at recording...looked more like shaky cam. It was quick. The healing as been problem free and I am glad I had it done.

Finally...more pics

Posted in School Dayz

Ok I finally have time to post the remaining picture from our chocolate study. The kids made chocolate covered strawberries, gum drop construction, blew bubbles with bubble gum, played chocolate dominos, made a comic strip, made chocolate peanut butter balls, made chocolate clay (which didn't turn out very good for shaping into stuff), and did the Mentos / Diet soda experiment. Finally on day before our last day, they made cookies and other treats for our pajama day. Our last day consisted of both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies...the one from the 70's and the new one with Jonny Depp.

First week...

Posted in School Dayz

Our first week of school went fabulous! Thank ya Jesus! I felt more prepared this year than last year. The kids were cooperative...which was nice and everybody did what they were supposed to. We started our year off with Chocolate...a unit study. We are lovin it and learning stuff. We have made (well they made) Chocolate Almond Brickle and they melted the end of the spoon that they stirred the stuff with...LOL. It was good!! We still have about 2 weeks of study left and more goodies to make. Our book is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I bought the movie, so our last day of the study will be to watch it. Here are some pics thus far. (Just mouse over the pics...there are some hidden ones too)

Big Toe

Posted in Drama...

So the next day after Elitch Gardens, I was leaning the couch back so my son could get something from under it. Now, mind you, it's a heavy couch, so when you lean it back you have to give it all you've got. I put my arms on it....I pushed down on it with a grunt AND....my dang toe was under the rim and I smashed it! OOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUCH!!!!! I screamed and cried...it hurt like a a son of a gun!! (Never mind my crusty feet)

Six Flags

Posted in Good Times!!

So after we came back from our anniversary celebration, DH and I took the kids to Six Flags Elitch Gardens on Saturday. It was fun, but a very long day. Ok, so I totally fell trying to get out of the way of the big water splash from the Ship Wreck Falls ride. The point was to get close enough to take a picture of my kiddos and then get the heck out of dodge. Weeeeeell....as I was turning to leave, a little boy cut right in front of me and I tripped over his feet. I fell on my right hip, scraped up my arm, my glasses bounced off my face, and the camera went flying, BUUUUUT...I got the picture!!!....LOL!

ANNIVERSARY!!

Posted in Good Times!!

We celebrated our 15th year together...9 years married!! We went to Estes Park, CO and stayed in the beautifully peaceful cabin at Sunnyside Knoll...the same place I stayed 3.5 years ago when my DH sent me up there for some "me" time. The cabin had a full kitchen, a hot tub in the living room, a huge king size bed, a fireplace, a private balcony with a grill, and a nice size bathroom with a two person shower. The day we arrived, we had fresh water salmon, with corn and some delicious Baileys Irish Cream Liquior. The next morning we made breakfast and Dh surprised me with cards and a beautiful ring! I set his cards on the table first thing in the AM without him knowing, but he opened them and I didn't know it, so I have no pictures. After that we got dressed and went downtown to the Old Fashioned Candy Store, and other stores. We took pictures...LOL:

After we came from town, we put on the grub. We had crab, buffalo steak, scallops, and Opakapaka Hawaiian Fish.  I think we had too much pre-meal salavating to the point where we forgot the veggies...lol. It was SOOOO good. The great thing is, we only paid less then half price for all that food and it was all fresh. When we went shopping for it (before we got up there), people were so excited that we were celebrating our anniversary that they gave up HUGE discounts on the food. Anyway, After we ate we had champaigne and settled in the hot tub and watched movies-n-stuff!

The most beautiful part of the time was that we reconnected!! It was some much needed time together! I feel like we got a fresh start in our relationship. God blessed us SO much and I am so thankful to Him for my husband!
Thanks for sharing in this time with us!
