Oct. 26, 2006 - Our Friends in Kenya - Updated 10/31/06
Dear Friends, As some of you know, my husband and I led a short-term mission team from First Covenant Sacramento to Zambia, Africa, in the summer of 2003. While we were there working with World Vision, we met a pastor from Nairobi, Kenya, named Joseph Mumita who was studying with World Vision in Zambia at the time. For the past three years we’ve kept in touch to pray for and encourage one another. We even had the privilege of assisting him with a car purchase when his car broke down last year – as some of the people to whom he ministers are fairly remote. Currently, his congregation is in the process of raising a church building, but the project has stalled due to lack of funds. The entire project is costing approx. $35,000 US dollars, but so far they’ve only raised a little over $24,000. We have felt the Lord calling us to assist our Christian friends in Kenya in raising the needed funds for their church. Will you join us in our efforts? Please lift up this project and the people of Kenya in prayer. And if you feel led to assist Rev. Joseph and his congregation monetarily, please contact me. Oh, and take a moment to look at the pictures of our dear friends below. God’s blessings on you! -Ray and Christine

UPDATE: Shortly after my original post, Ray and I received a wonderful gift in the mail from Rev. Joseph's church in Kenya, with a letter expressing their thanks for prayer and financial support. Just yesterday (10/30/06) we received, via email, the following letter (unedited), with pictures of their progress thus far:
Praise be to God if you have received our token, imagine we were thinking of sending you something else but this time around we want you to inform me of what you realy desire from Africa or Kenya. Regarding the project, we are still on the move and as you can see on the attached pictures, we are geting ready to roof. infact we always thank you becouse it is the donation you gave as that has made us get that stage. Now for us to have the building completed we need some KSH.360,000 i.e US$5,000 between now and mid-December. I have mobilised the church members and the building comettee to raise some money on sunday 19th november, if you still are raising some funds through friends and brethren, you are very much wellcome to join us in this course. Pass our Love to all & remaine blessed.
