Nov. 2, 2006 - Our New House
As some of you
already know, we are in the process of buying a new house. It all happened fairly quickly… We were
looking at model homes a couple of weeks ago, close (closer, anyway) to
where Ray works, and the sales associate told us that they had a home available
that was almost finished. Another family had been in the process of purchasing
this home and it fell out of escrow, thus freeing it up for someone else. She
informed us that we would not be able to choose any of the options, as it was
too close to completion, but said we should take a look at it if we were
interested. Of course we decided that it wouldn’t hurt to just look.
Well, when I
walked in the front door I instantly fell in love with the house and the big
open feel it possessed. We looked at several other houses after this one, but I
compared each one to this one. So, two weeks ago we signed our contract with
the builder and we close in less than two weeks! We got a great deal on the
house, since they needed to sell it so quickly, (it’s not good for home
builders to have “standing inventory” for too long) and it includes some
excellent upgrades! We have our
walk-thru on Tuesday and we are estimated to close and get the keys on the 14th.
I love the house
and can’t wait to make it our home. It will be so nice to have more room and a
place for guests and entertaining (it’s a 4 bdrm and we currently live in a 2½
bdrm), to have a backyard where the kids can run wild (we currently just have a
little porch), and a nice big kitchen with a walk-in pantry!
I am a little
overwhelmed with all that needs to be done in the next two weeks as we prepare
to move – Organizing, sorting, purging, boxing. I’m thinking we may need to put
some of our studies on hold.
My sister, Sara,
and her husband, Dustin, will be moving into our condo, so we need to get it
ready, as well. Here’s a list of what we need to do here at the condo:
- Replace broken outlet covers (no
biggie)
- Change air filters (another easy task)
- Clean fridge (not too bad)
- Clean blinds (never liked doing this)
- Wash windows and sills
- Wash baseboards and doors (exhausting
chore)
- Touch up paint
- Clean carpet (we’ll probably hire
someone to do this)
Whew, it makes me
tired just thinking about it! I know it
will all get done, but it’s a little overwhelming to think about.
Anyway, that’s the
news on our new home… Stay tuned for more to come. (I may even post some
pictures!)
