May. 31, 2007 - Thursday Thirteen #16 - Summer School

13 Reasons Why I Think It's A Great Idea To School Through the Summer:
1. Learning shouldn't be put on hold for 3 months...
2. My kids love to learn all through the year,
3. Why not count it as "school"
4. The kids just get out of the rhythm and routine of school if we break for summer...
5. They tend to forget a lot of what they have learned if we take too long off
6. And, it's hard for me, as teacher, to get back into the habit of schooling after the lazy, summer months are over
7. Plugging along during the summer will allow more flexibility during the rest of the year --
8. We will get to take lots of time off from book learning when the baby comes
9. So, for now the reading will not stop...
10. The writing will not stop...
11. The adding and subtracting will not stop...
12. And, with all the questions my kiddos ask, the research and explanations will not stop.
13. Besides, doesn't saving to buy water balloons, buying them, filling them, throwing them, and giggling as they pop all over our siblings, count as learning?

Thats the great thing about homeschooling! I liked being able to school or not when I felt like it, and taking anything and making it about school. All of life is about learning something! You just have to be creative about where it fits in.

Just another advantage to home schooling! You don't have to stop for the summer. It really does sound like such a fun way to learn.

I agree with you so much. Our boys are in developmental preschool (and will be for one month this summer) though I'm supplementing their school with home school curriculum and learning. Learning should never stop! And when my oldest finishes his extra year at the school he will definitely be schooled year round at home!

With all of the toys, books and school stuff filling our home, it tends to looks as if it is void of any order. In reality we are very systematic in the way our main parts (each family member) are connected, so as to form one whole unit (our family), thus creating "organized chaos".
