Jun. 9, 2007 - Mommies and Daddies
There is such a huge difference between the bond that a mother shares with her children, and the one shared by a father and his children...
From conception, we mommies share a one-of-a-kind, entirely unique, emotional and physical bond with our babies... After all, they live in us, and are a part of our very being, for 9 long months! And then, after birth, if we are so blessed, they nurse at our breast for a year, or more. They rely soley on Mommy for warmth, comfort, food and protection. Our babies trust us completely and explicitly. The connection is natural, and most amazing.
Then the little boogers become independent... They begin to walk, talk, interact and communicate with others, and they don't seem to need us quite so much. Here is when they truly find Daddy. They begin to see him as a source of fun and laughter. Daddy is the one to whom they run to play, wrestle, go on adventures. Oh, they still need us mommies... Mommy will always be around to provide love, comfort and sympathy. But Daddy is the weaver of tales and the source of answers. He is the one who protects and is the source of provision.
Mommies and Daddies are special, in their own way!! It is certainly true that we hold our children's hands for just a little while, but their hearts forever!
