Jun. 19, 2007 - What a weekend...
Did you miss me???
Friday afternoon we left for San Luis Obispo (on the coast of Southern California) on quite an adventure - We had a weekend full of camping, my brother's graduation, a wonderful Father's Day celebration, and lots of driving!! We all had a blast, as this was our first-ever family camping trip!
After a 6 1/2 hour drive, we arrived in San Luis Obispo where Mimi, Poppy, Uncle Nick, Uncle Jake, Aunt Annie, Aunt Sara, Uncle Dustin, and Cousins Alex and Adin were waiting for us. We had dinner at a little mexican restaurant and then headed to our camp site by the ocean. It was after dark so we scrambled to set up camp before all of the kiddos woke up. We have one of those three-room tents - big enough for our family of seven, for sure! Well, we were only able to take advantage of a third of the tent, as we were missing several poles!! (Those twins, I tell ya!) It worked out pretty well, even though I had Ben crawling all over me all night, and we all ended up squeezed together at one end of the tent by morning. Oh, and if any of you have ever been camping while 7 months pregnant... 'nough said!
We woke up on Saturday morning to lots of fog and tons of dew on our tent... Josh opened his eyes, took one look around and asked, "Mommy, are the sprinklers on?" There is never a dull moment when Josh is around!
We attended Nick's graduation ceremony on Saturday. He graduated from Cal Poly, with a BA in Graphic Communications... We are all so proud of him! All of the kiddos did very well during the ceremony and reception, considering we were on campus for about four hours.
Saturday afternoon, Daddy took the kids down to the beach, while Ben and I headed back to camp for a nap... It was needed, let me tell ya! It was a long night with roasting marshmellows by the fire and making S'mores... of course, the highlight of the evening. The kids had been waiting so long for the real camping stuff! Even though Josh was so pooped, he was determined to get his S'mores. He fell asleep, with half of his S'mores in his hand... It was the cutest thing ever!! Around the campfire, Daddy (with interjections from Zach, every now and then) told an awesome story about the Count of Monte Cristo.
Because of the fog, we all slept quite late on Sunday morning, but awoke to the giggling and squeeling of Ben and Josh, produced by Daddy's tickles. We started the day off right... with hot chocolate, hot coffee and doughnuts!! MMmm! More playing at the beach, gathering of seashells and rocks, and running around at the camp site took place, concluded by a nice bbq lunch, before breaking camp.
Not sure if I will ever go camping while pregnant again, but all in all, I think we had a pleasant first-time family camping experience. We certainly all enjoyed seeing Nick and spending time with family...
