Aug. 22, 2007 - Noah's Birth

For those of you who are curious about the events surrounding the birth of Baby Noah, here are the details...Knowing that I could possibly just barely make it to the hospital in time, being that he is my sixth child and each time my labor is faster, be prepared for a very short story!

Friday afternoon I scheduled an induction for Monday morning, mostly because my wonderful doctor and I decided that it would be best if I delivered in the hospital versus in the car. Ray and I were praying fervently that I would go into labor naturally over the weekend, as were many of my good friends. I did a lot of walking and tried a few other methods on Saturday to speed up the onset of labor, to no avail.

Sunday morning, quite desperate, I tried a dose of castor oil, before church, only to be disappointed by the lack of contractions I heard were inevitable when one's body is ready to deliver. About 2:30 I decided to try another dose, followed by a warm bath and a nap. At 4:40 I awoke with such a strong contraction, followed by a few about 10 minutes apart. I got up, walked around for a few minutes and they just continued to get stronger and closer. By 5:15 I knew I had better alert Ray, and we loaded up all the kiddos and headed to the hospital. We arrived at 6:05, I was checked by the nurse (who accidently broke my water) and Baby Noah was born at 6:23.

Ethan, Zach and Julia witnessed the birth of their baby brother, and Ray and my sister, Sara, were at either side of me, but no one else made it in time! Baby Noah was the first grandchild whose delivery was missed by Mimi! I think I did okay without my Mom, but I so wish she had made it! I'm just thankful that I made it to the hospital!!!

Woah! Now, that's how every birth should be. My 32 hours of labor was a nightmare. :) congratulations.

I still can't believe how different our labors are! I'm so glad it went so quickly and well, and that the twins and Julia could see little Noah be born! Hope you are having a good week, my friend!

i may be late on this, but i was looking through some old comments...and i came upon your blog-i am gong to add your name to my friends, too :)...i don't know why i never did. i do know that with many children (i have 4 , 4 and under) the mind can go sometimes ;0 seems that our brains, (or my brain at least) tend to prioritize things on their own...i guess blogging and computer world was not on teh top of my brain's list at that time. ANYWAY<

congrat! i have been induced with all 4 of my children. I want to JUst one time have a normal birth, but the whole idea of delivering in the car on the way there is so daunting! my hubby's cousin delivered his baby in his bathroom! CRAZY! i guess i liek the security. ANYWAY, congrats. i know you must be crazy. after my 4th was born (1 year agoon the 29th ;00) the first few months were the hardest-to get adjusted to taking care of 4...wEll, God bless you! he is such a cutie!

With all of the toys, books and school stuff filling our home, it tends to looks as if it is void of any order. In reality we are very systematic in the way our main parts (each family member) are connected, so as to form one whole unit (our family), thus creating "organized chaos".
