Oct. 22, 2005 - How I Got Started With Videos
Hey there! I'm Zack Lawrence from Southern California, here to tell you how I got started making videos.
When I was about 12 or 13 years old, a friend of mine showed me and another friend a movie he had made with his older brother. It was so funny that, when I got home, I got out our old VHS camcorder, set up a couple of my action figures, and made up a weird little story of my own. The rest, as they say, is history. (How's that for an over-used line?)
Over the next three years, I kept making little videos, usually consisting of me talking to myself with the occasional appearance of family members. Then one day, my dad gave me a CD that had a Star Wars "fanfilm" that some people had made and placed on the internet. After watching that, I wanted to make my own Star Wars movies. (I'm such a copy-cat) We had just gotten a digital camera, so after a few effects tests, I made my first Star Wars movie with some friends: The Phantom Masks, followed by its sequel, Attack of the Stones. Each was about five minutes in length.

Using Star Wars as a place to hone my skills, I went on to help my Dad put together a project that he had been thinking about for a while. In summer of 2004 we completed The Pastor's House: Episode 1 - God's Creation, a direct-to-DVD release, half-hour Christian children's show. I was assistant director, editor, and a puppeteer for it. You can learn more about The Pastor's House by going to www.pastorshouse.com
I've since made a few more short films with friends, including The Zack Lawrence Show, the Attack of the Sith duolgy (soon to be a trilogy), and Ridir Gaidhlig (Gaelic Knights).

Also, in the last year or two (can't remember how long) I've been interning with a local videographer, Gary Bell of Gig2Me Video, doing grip work (setting up lights, cameras, and other equipment) and editing TV commercials.

Well it's getting late,
so I'll sign off for now.
